Ceres Community Project

Ceres Community Project We create health for people, communities and the planet through love, healing food & empowering youth

Key facets of our approach include:
-Supporting individuals with serious illness with free or low-cost delivered organic meals, nutrition education and a community of caring.
-Involving young people as volunteer gardeners and chefs, giving them direct hands-on experience of the difference that fresh, healthy foods and community make, and of their own capacity to contribute.
-Educating the broade

r community about the connection between fresh, healthy food, strong social networks, healing and wellness.
-Connecting people of all ages and from all walks of life to one another and to their value as an integral part of the community. Ceres serves Sonoma and Marin counties from commercial kitchens and two gardens. We've also trained 11 communities across the country to replicate our model.

You don't need much space to grow an abundant, self-sustaining edible garden. We are moving right into the second session of our free permaculture series with teacher Mario Tapia, and our next workshop focuses on Creating a Food Forest in Your Yard at our new Santa Rosa site.

This hands-on class covers how to stack fruit trees, perennial herbs, and beneficial flowers together in "multi-story" layouts that maximize production in small spaces. You'll get to learn the design theory and immediately put it into practice by helping us plant out a brand-new food forest and set up its irrigation at our community hub.

Here are all the details for this session:
🗓️ When: Friday, June 12 | 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm
📍 Where: 1237 Apollo Way, Santa Rosa
🙌 Cost: Free, bilingual, family-friendly, and open to all ages!

Whether you missed the first class or are coming back for more, we'd love to have you out in the garden with us.

When a neighbor is diagnosed with a serious illness, their world can shrink overnight. The exhausting whirlwind of treatments and appointments leaves very little room for anything else. In those moments, a task as simple as standing at the stove to cook a nutritious meal can feel like an impossible mountain to climb.

But because of your compassion, our neighbors don’t have to face that mountain alone.
When a Ceres Delivery Angel arrives at a client's door, they bring so much more than medically tailored nutrition. They bring the profound relief of knowing that dinner is taken care of. They bring a caregiver precious time to simply sit and hold their loved one’s hand. They bring the comfort of knowing an entire community of young Teen Chefs and adult volunteers is cooking for them with love.

Early Bird tickets are officially open for Harvest of the Heart, our biggest and most inspiring fundraising celebration of the year! Every single ticket purchased directly funds these vital meals, ensuring nourishment reaches those who need it most.

If you are a local teen who wants to get your hands dirty, learn how to grow food, and make a real difference in our community, we would love to have you join us at our Petaluma garden.

Our Teen Gardeners work together to grow the fresh, organic vegetables that go directly into the meals we prepare for neighbors navigating a serious illness.

You don’t need any gardening experience to join us. Our team will teach you everything you need to know about organic farming, healthy soils, and sustainable food systems. Plus, it’s a great way to meet other local students and complete your high school community service hours.

Community is at the heart of everything we do, and when you share your story, you’re helping more neighbors find the nourishment and support they need while experiencing serious illness.

We are currently working toward maintaining our top rating on GreatNonprofits, a trusted platform where volunteers, donors, and clients can share their experiences. These stories help us reach new families and inspire more neighbors to join our community of care.

We only need 10 reviews to maintain our top rating, but we would love to hear from as many of our community of volunteers, clients, and donors to help achieve and surpass this goal. One of our volunteers, Melinda, shared how these connections impacted her:

"Every volunteer, staff, and teen I’ve worked with has been so intentional about their joy... I appreciate how grateful everyone is and how we get opportunities to glimpse the impact we collectively make. Volunteering is the highlight of my week!"

Whether you’ve spent time in our kitchens, delivered meals as a Delivery Angel, or received support from our program, your voice matters. It only takes a few minutes to share your thoughts and help a neighbor in need discover the nourishment they need.

Will you help us reach our goal?

🕛 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm
📍 1237 Apollo Way, Santa Rosa
