Pan America Chinese Dance Alliance Promoting Chinese dance, heritage connection, nurturing cultural confidence. The history and spirit of a culture is reflected in its performing arts.

If this is true, then the richness, depth, and diversity of the Chinese culture is certainly embodied in its classical folk dance. Many outside of China are not aware, but there are 56 officially recognized ethnic groups in China. Each ethnic minority group in China possesses and practices its own unique form of “folk” dance that reflect its unique history, culture, and values. Though each group i

s uniquely different, together they form the collective spirit of the Chinese people, past, present, and future. Pan America Chinese Dance Alliance (PACDA) was founded to create opportunities for effective and substantive cross-cultural exchanges in the performing arts between Chinese dancers and teachers in the U.S. and dance professionals in China. PACDA founder, professor Pan Zhitao, a nationally recognized authority, expert, and historian of Chinese folk dances, has spent nearly his entire life dedicated to the teaching and exploration of this art form. By forming this alliance of dance instructors, professor Pan hopes to rally and unite all practitioners of classical Chinese folk dance, whether they are students or teachers, by offering resources and support to help them enhance their performance, strengthen their technique, and connecting their dance to the full richness of the Chinese culture. Whether you are a beginning or advanced student of Chinese dance, or a dance instructor, we invite you to become a member of the Pan America Chinese Dance Alliance.

What can Chinese dance make possible beyond the stage?

At the 2026 Taoli World Dance Competition Grand Finals, PACDA’s Wudao™ Forum brought together educators, artists, students, alumni, parents, scholars, and community voices to explore that question from very different perspectives.

Across the Forum, our featured voices asked us to think more deeply about why dancers continue, how cultural identity is formed across generations and geographies, what respectful innovation really requires, how dance shapes confidence and leadership, what parents see from the sidelines, and how the knowledge carried through Chinese dance can reach far beyond the studio.

Some perspectives came from decades of teaching and artistic practice. Others came from students still discovering what Chinese dance means in their own lives. Together, they reflected something at the heart of PACDA and Taoli World: Chinese dance is not only something we perform. It can be a way of learning, remembering, questioning, connecting, and growing. 💫

We’ll be sharing selected moments from these conversations here, one voice and one question at a time. Full presentations from the Wudao™ Forum will also be available on our YouTube channel very soon. We look forward to continuing the conversation with you. ❤️

We are deeply grateful to the elected officials and community leaders who recognized PACDA during the 2026 Taoli World Dance Competition Grand Finals. Their encouragement is a meaningful affirmation of the dancers, educators, families, volunteers, and supporters who continue to make this work possible. ❤️

We are especially honored to receive a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from U.S. Representative Dave Min of California’s 47th Congressional District, an official recognition of PACDA’s contributions to our community.

The certificate recognizes PACDA for our commitment to “preserving and promoting Chinese Dance Education and artistic creation, while inspiring cultural confidence and identity.”

For more than a decade, PACDA has worked to create spaces where Chinese dance can be learned, created, shared, and carried forward across generations. Through dance education, performance, and cross-cultural exchange, we hope to help people connect more deeply with their heritage while building understanding and connection across communities.

This recognition belongs to the many people who have built PACDA alongside us. Thank you to our dancers, teachers, families, partners, volunteers, and supporters, and to the elected officials who took the time to recognize this work. 🌟

PACDA Master Class with Lorenzo Guerrini 💜

During the 2025–2026 Taoli World Grand Finals, dancers continued learning beyond the competition stage through an energizing Modern / Contemporary Dance class with Lorenzo Guerrini.

Drawing from his background in Graham technique and his work as a principal dancer with the Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company, Lorenzo guided dancers to explore strength, musicality, spatial awareness, and expressive movement. The class invited participants to move beyond familiar patterns, take creative risks, and experience how contemporary dance can connect different training backgrounds and artistic perspectives.

PACDA Master Classes with Professor Erdong Hu 胡二冬 💜

During the 2025–2026 Taoli World Grand Finals, dancers across both age groups continued learning beyond the competition stage through Chinese Classical Dance training with Professor Hu.

Through foundational movement, coordination, body pathways, and the integration of form, spirit, energy, and rhythm, dancers explored how Chinese classical dance brings technique and artistic expression together. Each class offered age-appropriate guidance while encouraging dancers to move with greater clarity, intention, and cultural understanding.

PACDA Master Class with Professor Yihua Huang 黄奕华 💜

During the 2025–2026 Taoli World Grand Finals, dancers continued learning beyond the competition stage through an immersive Chinese Folk and Ethnic Dance class with Professor Huang.

In this session for dancers ages 13 and up, participants explored Huagudeng 花鼓灯, a traditional dance form from Anhui and one of China’s national-level intangible cultural heritage traditions. Through its distinctive rhythms, grounded movement, expressive character, and dynamic group energy, dancers experienced how technique and cultural understanding come together within Chinese folk dance.

In this video, Amira from Happy Linda Dance Studio in Toronto, Canada reflects on what she learned through the PACDA Master Class experience, from technique and expressive movement to the feeling and cultural roots behind Uyghur ethnic dance. She also shares how studying different styles, including Dunhuang dance, helped her notice connections across movement, culture, and artistic expression.

Today, as our U.S. community observes Independence Day, we are reflecting on the many stories that make this country home. 🇺🇸

Since the 19th century, generations of Chinese immigrants and Chinese Americans have crossed oceans, built lives, raised families, and contributed to the cultural, educational, artistic, and civic life of the United States.

At PACDA, we honor both our cultural roots and the communities we are part of today. Through dance, we carry memory, identity, and heritage into classrooms, rehearsal spaces, stages, and shared public life.

For us, this day is also a moment to reflect on the country we continue to imagine and build together, one where culture is respected, stories are heard, and belonging is made possible for all.

Happy Independence Day to our U.S. community, with gratitude for the global dance family that continues to inspire us. 🤍
