"The practice and prudence of Public Legal Theology presupposes—and requires—knowing about more than 'legal doctrines.' The Public Legal Theology enterprise must be situated in real reality, including humanity and culture. One way to do this well involves reading deeply and broadly.

Recently in a past year, I read—and I mean read, not heard—about 50 books. Some were thick dense legal texts comprised of thousands of pages containing judicial ramblings. Others were “mind candy” providing sheer entertainment. Others provided worldview formation and theological rigor. —Professor Jeffery Ventrella

At our recent lunch with the Dean, students had the opportunity to share a meal with President and Dean, Eric Halvorson. Dean Halvorson answered student's questions and discussed the importance of finding balance, sticking it out when it gets tough, and remembering to stop and pray throughout the day."

"The liberty comprehended by the Founders is best understood in the context of these words of John Adams, spoken in October of 1798 to the military: 'We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion... Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.'" —Professor Neil Rodgers

On this day, 239 years ago, 39 delegates from the United States of America met in Philadelphia to sign the Constitution—a document that would establish a new form of government and forever change the way the world views the rule of law. Led by President George Washington, the Framers of the Constitution instituted a supreme law that separated and limited the powers of government in order to protect the liberties we cherish to this day. They sought not only to address the challenges of the time but to create a document that would sustain this young nation into an unknown future.

Trinity Law School was honored to host attorney and human rights activist, Jacqueline Isaac, who gave a lecture on her work at , a non-profit legal organization dedicated to empowering vulnerable individuals globally. She sat down with the Director of the Center for Human Rights, Professor DeLoach, to discuss the meaning of justice for survivors of sexual violence during armed conflict in the Middle East. She has been instrumental in the international fight against acts of sexual violence during wartime and genocide.
