Exciting work is underway for the future of Sandy Springs!

The City’s Comprehensive Plan and Recreation & Park Plan effort has officially begun. The project, known as THE NEXT CHAPTER, kicked off last night at City Hall.

The Sandy Springs Conservancy’s Linda Bain attended as a member of the Advisory Committee. We look forward to helping shape a vision for our city’s future parks, recreation opportunities, and overall community development. Stay tuned for opportunities to get involved and share your input throughout the process! Public input begins June 23rd!

Searching for Volunteers!
The Sandy Springs Conservancy was pleased to be a part of the first PERIMETER COMMUNITY Volunteer Fair today at Dunwoody United Methodist Church.

The Sandy Springs Conservancy leadership team got out on the water today, exploring the Chattahoochee River firsthand.
Candace Baumann and Jason Ulseth from Chattahoochee Riverkeeper hosted board members Terry Morris and Doug Morgan, along with Executive Director John Maximuk, for an eye-opening look at the river’s health.
In less than two hours, we experienced the full story of this vital resource - from drinking water and wastewater to wildlife habitats, land use, recreation, and energy production. It wasn’t just a snapshot of the river today, but a journey through its past and a glimpse into its future.
We walked away with a whole new perspective on our HOME river We’d recommend this tour to anyone who cares about metro Atlanta.
Huge thanks to Jason and Candace. And Chattahoochee Riverkeeper - we’re bigger fans than ever.

Big news for Sandy Springs!

As we celebrate 25 years of enhancing parks, paths, and greenspace, the Sandy Springs Conservancy is excited to announce that John Maximuk has been named our new Executive Director!

Maximuk brings a powerful combination of community advocacy and government leadership, with experience spanning Fulton County, the City of Decatur, and the City of Chamblee. His passion for creating vibrant, connected communities makes him the perfect fit to lead us into our next chapter.

“Maximuk’s background across both community and government roles makes him exceptionally well-suited for this position,” said Board Chairman Jack Misiura. “He brings both the passion and expertise to deliver meaningful, lasting impact for our citizens.”
For more than 25 years, Maximuk has been deeply involved in planning and urban design, including work with the Livable Communities Coalition and ongoing leadership as Board Chair of the Architecture and Design Center.

Thanks to supporters like you, the Conservancy has helped raise over $1 million and partnered on impactful projects like:
• Morgan Falls Overlook Park
• Abernathy Greenway
• Lost Corner Nature Preserve
• The first segment of the Springway
Looking ahead, we’re excited to expand the Springway, connect to Path400, and improve access to the Chattahoochee River—continuing to enhance quality of life across our community.
