In September 1983, Gene Roddenberry picked up the phone and called Russ Haslage.
He gave his blessing. He said, go build it.
That call was the beginning of The Federation. Less than a year later, on June 1, 1984 — the opening night of Star Trek III: The Search for Spock — the doors opened and the work began.
The mission was never about fandom. Gene Roddenberry's vision of the future was a world without hatred, hunger, bigotry, or greed. The Federation exists to close the distance between that future and the one we are living in right now — one act of service at a time.
More than 42 years later, that is still the mission. Every Trekker who shows up for a food drive, a disaster relief effort, or a community service mission is answering the same call Gene Roddenberry placed in 1983. All volunteers. No salaries. Just people who believe the future is worth working for.
It started with a phone call. It continues with you.
Live long and prosper.
