Did You Know💡

Beach advisories and closures are issued when water testing finds that the contamination in the water exceeds public health standards. In 2025, 742 advisories were issued in San Diego County, the highest in recent years. While sewage‑related closures from the Tijuana River declined compared to 2024, impacts remain historically high.

Clean beaches support public health, outdoor recreation, local businesses, and the region’s quality of life. They also serve as a natural “cool zone” during heat waves, providing relief for residents when temperatures rise. San Diegans exhibit a strong level of concern for our beaches, with 65% of residents reporting feeling “alarmed” or “concerned” about local beach water quality. As San Diego faces ongoing challenges from pollution, flooding, and rising sea levels, protecting our coastal resources remains essential.

Did You Know The arts and culture nonprofit sector is made up of 1,271 organizations. That’s 10% of all nonprofits in the San Diego region! This sector holds $1.6 billion in assets and employs 3,716 workers.

At the same time, data shows that 85% of these organizations are small, with an annual budget of $1 million or less. One-third of arts nonprofits reported weak financial health in 2026.

Though many arts and culture nonprofits operate on limited budgets, the sector meaningfully contributes to San Diego’s economic and community infrastructure.

Did You Know? Most single parents do not earn enough to cover basic needs in San Diego County, a region with a very high cost of living. A parent and child need $88,707 to afford necessities.

Not only that, single mothers earn about $30,000 less than single fathers, highlighting the significant financial challenges these parents face.
