Congratulations Class of 2026! πŸŽ‰ From balloons and glitter to single-use party decor, many graduation traditions create waste that lasts long after the celebration ends. Instead, opt for reusable decorations, locally sourced flowers, potted plants, and natural confetti made from leaves or flower petals. Small choices can make a big difference for our oceans, wildlife, and community.

Let’s keep Coronado Emerald Green, Ocean Blue while celebrating life’s biggest moments. πŸŽ‰

🐒🌊 Founded in 2000 by the nonprofit American Tortoise Rescue, World Turtle Day aims to increase awareness about the importance of protecting turtles and tortoises and their rapidly disappearing habitats.

San Diego Bay is home to anywhere from 60 and 100 green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas). The turtles, which are listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act, feed on the bay's eel grass.

How can you help your local sea turtles?

β€’ Slow down when on the water because turtles are often at or near the surface. Incidents of boat strikes are increasing
β€’ Pick up all fishing line and plastic to avoid entanglement and injury, which can lead to drowning.
β€’ Help the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration learn more about the local sea turtles. If you see a turtle, take a picture and fill out NOAA’s Sea Turtle Sightings Survey: https://tinyurl.com/bp9td7de. The form asks for basic information about your sighting, such as the date, time, location, and behavior. 🌊🐒

Fishing season is in full swing at the Coronado Ferry Landing 🎣 Peak season runs from April through October, bringing anglers out day and night to enjoy one of San Diego Bay’s favorite fishing spots. The bay’s warm, shallow waters are home to more than 50 species of fish, including spotted bay bass, halibut, yellowfin croaker, stingrays, and even shovelnose guitarfish.

The pier’s eelgrass habitat provides shelter and food for local marine life, making it an incredible place to fish while taking in waterfront views. Whether you’re a seasoned angler or just enjoying a day by the bay, remember to fish responsibly, follow local regulations, and practice catch-and-release when possible to help protect Coronado’s marine ecosystem for generations to come 🌊

Every pedal stroke counts toward a cleaner planet. 🌍 Tomorrow is National Bike to Work Day, and we are celebrating the power of sustainable transit!

Choosing two wheels instead of four lowers carbon footprints, reduces urban traffic, and keeps our air clean. It is one of the most impactful daily choices you can make for the environment. 🚲

Microplastics are everywhere... in our water, food, and even the air we breathe. The average person consumes about a credit card’s worth of plastic every week. 🀯

A few simple kitchen swaps can help reduce your exposure:

β€’ Choose glass or metal water bottles
β€’ Swap plastic cutting boards for wood or bamboo
β€’ Avoid heating food in plastic containers
β€’ Use reusable cloth wraps instead of cling film
β€’ Opt for metal, silicone, or glass kitchen tools

Small changes can make a big difference for your health and for keeping our oceans Emerald Green and Ocean Blue. πŸŒŽπŸ’™ Read more here: https://tinyurl.com/y44teyux
