A letter sent from a man at Chino State Prison -

I ask that today, and all days be blessed. As we remember our love ones that have been murdered or victimized by the hands of another human being. Many senseless crimes can be prevented, if we as humans bond together by showing love and compassion to one another.

By putting our pride and ego aside for one second to think about the negative decisions being made, we can allow our brother or sister a chance to live.

My name is Roosevelt Wooten, I 'am serving a life sentence for attempting to murder two people when I was 17 years old. At the time I was a criminal, gang member, bully, and I wanted to show that I was down.

I did not consider the pain and suffering I caused to so many people on the day my actions left these men on the brink of death.

My thinking was wrong, when me and my homies were arrested, everyone else went home and I stayed because they told on me to save themselves. Yes my so called homies, I was convicted and sentenced to "life" in prison.

Four years later my youngest brother was charged with attempted murder, for shooting someone in the chest. He was sentenced to "32years to life" in prison.

A year later our older brother was murdered, due to senseless gang violence.
My younger brother felt as if Karma had come back in an instant. My brothers murder victimized us all.

My mother was so heart broken, devastated and in pain, she attempted su***de. My sister could not deal with the pain of two brothers serving life in prison and another brother murdered. She became an alcoholic in an attempt to numb the pain, this pain would forever be there. This made me think of the harm and pain I caused other peoples families. I felt guilt and shame for what I had done. Nobody deserves to lose a child. The reason I share my story is because I want you all to know the reality of senseless violence and gang lifestyle, that the so called homies don't tell you like how these actions cause pain and suffering to so many people, including mothers, fathers, siblings, aunts, uncles grandparents, our communities, our own families and also to ourselves.

I can tell you all that when you take a "life" you unplug someone's energy from this earth and it becomes attached to your energy. So now you have an obligation to learn and understand how and why, you did what you did. Please don't let it take you committing a horrible crime to try to figure it out.

Me and my brothers are examples that the criminal gang lifestyle and senseless violence has only 2 out comes, prison and death. Please don't follow that path, you have a opportunity to make better choices for better out comes, don't let prison or death be your destiny.
I want you all to know its OK to ask for help from positive people, don't allow yourself to be influenced by people who don't love you or care about you. I can assure you the streets and gang lifestyle does not love you. It will only use you, abuse you, and then kill you.
I came to understand that the pain and suffering I caused was wrong and no one deserved it, I developed remorse and empathy and made a commitment to change. I left the criminal and gang lifestyle, and became a law abiding citizen while in prison , by changing my thinking I was able to change my behavior and get rid of my pride and ego so i can show love, kindness, compassion, and care to others.
I met Mothers With a Message in 2018 they helped me solidify my change by expressing exactly what a victim truly experiences Physically, psychologically, financially, socially and spiritually.

From that day on I vowed to never cause pain or hurt to anyone for any reason . I changed, my brother has taken the same positive steps to change. We are no longer gang members or criminals. We value life and promote positive pro social behavior. Life is short we have to make it worth it. I will close with this one less criminal means one less crime, results in one less victim. Peace love safety and blessings.

It is a true honor to have Supervisor Paloma Aguirre present this proclamation to Mothers with a Message. We thank her for recognizing us, believing in us and bringing us out of the shadow so that we can support many more & prevent the loss of another young life.

We are blessed and can’t express enough our gratitude to everyone who attended & stood with us today.

You mourned with us and now you rejoice with us.

Join us in remembering Jaime today as we pray over our communities for continued peace & respect for life.
We will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery at 12.

Continue to love your families.

Honor your parents & take the time to learn about their childhoods and ask them questions about life & their advice to some of the solutions to the problems of today .

I used to ask my mom “why do you think that there’s violence and young people killing each other ? She answered it starts with the ma*****na 😃something is in that ma*****na and also parents want to give their kids a good life so they work a lot & are never home most of the time “ it’s hard because we need to pay bills but the kids are important too.
Some of her answers made me laugh but I also learned a lot from her.

Today if you pass by Tocumbo buy yourself a torta ahogada, Jaime loved hot chile , he liked to challenge himself to eat the hottest chile , but the torta ahogada got him, he loved it but the whole time his ears and mouth were burning . Go try one lol.

Jaime wrote a report when he was younger about what he wished for the world , he said he wished for peace and for no one to go hungry! For everyone in the world to have food. If you see someone struggling buy someone food in his memory.

Jaime loved his friends a lot , if you were his friend and had a problem he would always share that with me and say “ mom can you help them “

Be a good friend today to anyone, call one of your childhood friends and tell them you’re thinking of them & all the fun you had as kids.

Jaime had a big laugh , he entertained me with his laugh so enjoy start your day with a big laugh!

Jaime loved Mexican candy , his favorite were the squinkles- eat a skwinkle today.

Jaime loved his siblings , tell your siblings you love them in Jaime’s memory. He grew up w his cousins as siblings too , so enjoy & love on your cousins

I was told Jaime’s last words were
“I love my family “ that says it all ❤️

If you can’t make it in person , join us wherever you are in prayer. Pray for the blessings in your life , what you desire in your life , pray for anyone out there that’s still lost in addiction or depression , pray for the violence to end , pray for your families , pray for the youth & pray for all the families I work with that live with the heartache of a loss. I added a picture. Pray for Jaime’s daughter to always have GODs protection over her.

Thank you

Join us in remembering Jaime.

We gather to advocate for peace & respect for life in his memory.

Everyone loses when a young life is lost , our future is at risk when our youth continue to die at the hands of other youth.

This can land at anyone’s doorstep.

14 years ago Mothers w a Message came to be when my son was taken from our family , with the love , support and shared purpose a group of mothers joined me to make MWAM come to life.

In memory of our children we share our story in the prison , in the schools , in diversion programs and anywhere it needs to be heard so another family doesn’t cry our tears or carry our pain and other youth can pause and think about their choices and consequences before acting on impulse.

There is so much to see in the world so much potential in every individual .

We see it but until you see it for yourself you will continue to carry self hate & trauma and throw it on to others & our communities and families will be the ones to continue to suffer .

Let’s come together and unite for peace , let’s stop our busy lives for a minute and mentor a youth, notice a youth and speak life into them.

Hi everyone ,Please keep your eyes open for Rosa Linda . She is a sweet friend of mine I met in Julian . We met when I was taking youth down to camp in Julian .She loved working with youth and volunteered her time to do arts n crafts . She loved making necklaces and bracelets . She’s very talented & creative , has a caring heart .

I had not heard from her in a few months .Her mom contacted me last night to tell me she’s missing. She suffered a mental break down after going through DV & having to fight for her baby daughter in court.

She has been spotted by the encampments by Bonita & Chula Vista , also sleeping at the bus stops in Mission Valley.

My heart is crushed to know Rosa was going through so much she didn’t share about. She is out there somewhere & her mother as you can imagine can’t sleep , she’s been searching for her and this has caused her to lose the will to live herself .

Please help bring Rosa home so her family can provide her the love , support & resources she needs.

I posted some pictures of how I remember Rosa , always looking beautiful with long shiny black hair , her mom says she looks very different, she has lost a lot of weight & looks very sad & tired.

💔❤️🌼
