While in Normandy, large crowds tend to gather when the veterans show up. You never know what they’re going to say 😂. We loved having Sam Meyer’s energy with us and only hope we can be that ecstatic about life when we’re that age!

Military Assistance Command, Vietnam –Studies and Observations Group -MACV-SOG

They signed an oath of silence.

For 20 years, these men couldn't tell their families what they did. Not a word — under threat of jail time or a $10,000 fine. They were part of one of the most classified special operations units in American military history. They watched their brothers die at breakfast and gave toasts for them at dinner when they didn't come home. And then they came home to San Francisco — where people spat on them and threw food.

Now, 54 years later, 8 MACV-SOG veterans return to Vietnam.

They signed an oath of silence for 20 years.

50+ years later, 8 MACV-SOG veterans returned to Vietnam — to the ground where 16 of their brothers were killed in a single night at FOB 4, Marble Mountain.

We stood with them. We read the names. All 16.

“When we were here, we never cried for our fallen brothers. We had to create a callous wall around our emotions in order to function.”

“I came to face the demons. There was no smell. And the demon died. And I’m glad I came.”

These men came home to San Francisco after the war and were spat on in the streets. They kept their silence for decades. They carried their grief alone.

This film is for them.

Taking care of the ones who took care of us is not just something we say, it’s lived out by every volunteer and staff member in our foundation. pilot, Earl Tingle, volunteered to be a caregiver for 98 year old veteran, Paul Priest, for the 80th anniversary of . He was expecting for it to be just physical, but the emotional experience of seeing Paul visit the country he helped liberate, and how the people responded, was life changing for him.
