Urgent: โ€ผ๏ธ Oppose California Senate Bill 1007!

SB 1007 is currently on the Senate floor and threatens the financial stability of Californiaโ€™s community associations. The bill proposes to cap annual assessment increases at the rate of inflation, unless a majority of members approve otherwise. While this may sound appealing, the reality is that critical costsโ€”like insurance, utilities, and necessary repairsโ€”often rise much faster than inflation. Community associations are legally required to cover these real expenses and are not allowed to build profit into their budgets.

If SB 1007 passes, associations will be forced to defer vital maintenance, leading to larger, unpredictable special assessments that hit homeowners hard. Requiring member votes for budget increases is costly and rarely successful, putting everyoneโ€™s safety and property values at risk. Existing laws already limit annual increases and require member approval for anything above 20%, a system thatโ€™s worked for decades.
