Libby Lou's Safe Haven

Libby Lou's Safe Haven We are a 501(c)3 vegan microsanctuary for cows and friends. After my parents passed away, I was emotionally lost. To thank her, I founded Libby Lou's Safe Haven!

I had tremendous support from friends and family but my first cow, Libby Lou, healed a part of my soul that no human could touch. We are a microsanctuary for cows and friends, striving to become a resource for our community to help those who have been abused, neglected, have special needs or uncertain futures. We also invite conversations about compassion. We are open by appointment only! Sundays

only. 11:00am-2:00pm

We cannot accommodate drop-in visitors. We kindly request a suggested donation of $50 per adult and $25 per child. This is just a suggestion, not a fee. Please see our website for more info on visiting. http://libbyloussafehaven.com

The last goodbye between daughter Doe and mother Whittier. šŸ’”

When Snowflake suddenly passed, I was in shock and I didn’t let her family spend enough time with her. I swore I would not make that mistake again. They had time with Whittier, their matriarch.

If you would like to donate in Whittier’s memory, that would be wonderful. In times of crisis like this, you do what you need to do, but there’s still the financial aspect. Between the two vet appointments and burial it was $1500.

Once I can think clearly, I will do a tribute post to Grandma Whittier.

Libby Lou’s has news! We are soon to be on the move!

Between living in an area of extreme fire danger and the high cost of life in San Diego, I’ve been stressing out for a while. I just don’t think it’s substantial long-term. I want the sanctuary to thrive, not just survive. Seems like we’ve been doing a lot of surviving and not much thriving.

I found us 7 acres of flat useable pasture about an hour south of Sequoia National Park. It even has irrigation! That means I might could grow our own hay and at least partially offset the monthly hay bill. This could be a game changer for us! Lower fire risk too. The property also has a pond with some benches and a gazebo! With some TLC, this property has potential to be amazing for both the animals and guests!

San Diego will always be home and leaving was not part of my plan but the animals must come first.

Update: What a difference from yesterday! Just got word the evacuation warning has been lifted and the Border 6 fire is now 25% contained. Have been watching the stream of bulldozers, water tankers and firetrucks go down our road…These brave folks are amazing and we are so grateful! Thank you for keeping us safe! šŸ™šŸ®šŸ«šŸ“šŸ¦®šŸ±

Just wanted to give an update…The Border 6 fire in our area was at 700 acres US side, 520 acres Mexico side as of last night. Waiting on AM update from Cal Fire. We’ve been under an evac warning since yesterday. The kind folks who volunteer to help evacuate large animals are on stand-by. Praying that is not needed!

My buddy Jodie in the UK rescued this precious boy from a petting farm when he was a baby. His story has taken off so much and now he even has his own song!!!!ā¤ļø

This past weekend was the busiest Libby Lou’s has ever been! In addition to the kids coming out on Saturday, we also had two birthday tours, one on Friday and the other on Sunday. I swear I don’t think the donkeys have ever looked this well groomed! šŸ˜„šŸ«

The animals got so much extra attention and I feel really good about all the education I was able to do. Thank you all for your visits, for donating and for caring about farm animals. 🩷
