Compassion it

Compassion it Compassion It makes compassion a verb. We are a nonprofit and global movement whose mission is to inspire daily compassionate actions and attitudes.

We envision a world where compassion is practiced by every person, for every person, on every day. Through training and tools, we make compassion accessible and scalable. We work with individuals and organizations to create more compassionate homes, communities, workplaces, and systems. We've reached thousands of people of all walks of life - from inmates to big tech leaders.

We're THRILLED to share that thanks to the generosity of so many of you, Compassion it has scheduled our first two cohorts of Compassion-Centered Resilience Training (CCRT) for oncology teams! This is so exciting!!

Our goal is to raise $30,000 to:
1 - lead the training for three San Diego-based cohorts who work for an oncology program
2 - lay the foundation for scaling this unique course beyond San Diego.

There is LEGIT research to back up this training. Published and everything! 🙂

We're still trying to raise $11,000 in order to reach our goal. Your donation will be MATCHED thanks to the generosity of The Seacove Fund, Jennifer and Christine Gunsaullus, and Soul Fire.

Thank you for any support you can offer to help Compassion It care for the caregivers. 🙂

I don't often create fundraisers for Compassion It. It's WAY out of my comfort zone to ask for support in this way.

But this opportunity is too important.

We have been invited to try out our new four-week course–Compassion-Centered Resilience Training (CCRT)–for three cohorts at an oncology department in San Diego, and there's tremendous potential for this training to scale.

Please consider donating and/or sharing this with others. Thanks to the generosity of The Seacove Fund, Soul Fire, and Jennifer and Christine (in honor of their mom, Carol), your donation will be MATCHED!

This is our opportunity to care for the people who care for us and our family members when we are in our most vulnerable state.

CCRT has published research behind it, and that research indicates increased self-compassion, improved workplace joy, and more supportive work environments.

I've been doing this work for over 14 years, and I've never felt so inspired about the potential of a compassion course to impact so many lives.

Thank you for believing in me, Burrell Poe, and Compassion It!

With appreciation,

I'm grateful for the opportunity to work with the wonderful team at PAWS of Coronado. The work they do matters so much, and it's INCREDIBLY CHALLENGING.

I led our four-week compassion training series, which focuses on mindfulness, self-compassion, common humanity, and active compassion. The course focuses on creating more engaged teams who know how to be a little more vulnerable with each other and care for each other.

Here's a comment from one of the participants after the course, "Sara presented this course in a way that the whole group got involved and now understand what compassion means and how we can apply it to our everyday lives."

Thank you PAWS of Coronado for your commitment to compassion!

In March, PAWS of Coronado partnered with compassion expert Sara Schairer for a series on combating compassion fatigue—an important issue in animal welfare. The partnership also included a special session for our Board of Directors.
Sara, founder of Compassion It® and author of A Case for Compassion, shares practical tools to turn compassion into action—for others and ourselves. 💙🐾

Give Two Sh*ts About Compassion It

Compassion It exists because compassion isn’t a personality trait. It’s a skill. And we can all get better at it.

We teach people how to
• pause instead of react
• connect instead of withdraw
• care for themselves so they can care for others

It's simple, powerful, and needed more than ever.

Day 6 of Giving Two Sh*ts

Today let's care about our vulnerable youth.

Every child deserves safety, stability, and a future they can believe in.

But many young people in San Diego are facing homelessness, trauma, family conflict, mental health challenges, abuse, or involvement in systems that make life even harder.

San Diego Youth Services provides the support these youth need through safe housing, counseling, crisis intervention, education and job programs, and community spaces with trusted adults. Their work helps youth heal, stay in school, stay housed, and move toward healthy independence.

When I taught compassion at San Diego’s maximum security prison, the men in my class shared stories of childhoods filled with trauma. Every story reminded me how deeply young people need compassion and support long before things escalate.

Day 5 of our Giving Two Sh*ts Day Campaign
💩 💩= ❤️

We are you asking you to care about opportunity for ALL.

In case you haven't been paying attention, it's a challenging time to be doing work that advances and supports diversity, equity, and inclusion.

We all need to be giving wayyyy more than two sh*ts about that.

Today we're highlighting the BIPOC Support Foundation, a nonprofit organization advancing educational equity, environmental justice, youth empowerment, and mental wellbeing for historically underserved communities.

What sets BSF apart? Their holistic approach to youth development, integrating not just academics but also social-emotional learning, cultural pride, and outdoor experiences that connect students to their environment and heritage.

Their programs help students build confidence, strengthen literacy and academic skills, cultivate environmental stewardship, and grow into community leaders.
