What started as a faith journey of Amor’s founders Gayla and Scott, has turned in to a global ministry with a vision shared by many. Gayla and Scott founded Amor Ministries in 1980 to address the housing needs that were keeping families apart. The first homes were built alongside families in the Tijuana dump who were sending their children to orphanages because they couldn’t provide for them. These families were desperate to stay together, but resources kept that from being possible. After learning about this, Amor’s Founders decided to do something about it. Today Amor is active in communities throughout Mexico, South Africa, and beyond. Amor Ministries does more than just make life easier for a family in need, we open hearts to truly see the grace and love of Jesus by providing security, safety, and stability. Through the time and energy of our volunteers, Amor has kept over 18,000 families together.

"I now have a house for my son, a safe place for him to grow up. I can’t explain to you how wonderful this feels."

Luz shared these words with us after she and her six-year-old son Jose received their new home in Juarez, Mexico. She told us about how they used to live in a small room made of used lumber with a dirt floor, how dirt would blow into their home during the summer, and how cold they would be during the winter.

But now, "we are neither hot nor cold anymore, and our house stays clean since the dirt does not get in. Receiving an Amor house is a blessing."

We’ve seen time and time again that on our Amor trips in Mexico, cultural differences and language barriers are set aside. Unforgettable memories are made while serving together, sharing moments, and simply being present!

A mom to three teenage daughters, Norma shared with us about how being a single mother living in Juarez has come with it's own unique set of challenges. One challenge she faces is being the sole parent responsible for her children and their living conditions.

Now, they have been enjoying living in their new Amor home — one that is bigger, safer, and more comfortable. Norma's biggest dream is that her family is always united, and we're so grateful to our donors for helping make this possible!

For many years, Amor has been blessed to serve families throughout Baja, Puerto Peñasco, and Ciudad Juarez through our Food Bank Program. In Baja, we purchase food staples and prepare around 90 bags each month, which are given to our local pastors to distribute to families in their communities who need a little extra support.

Over the years, these food bags have helped single mothers, families with young children, and many others facing difficult seasons.
