What started as a faith journey of Amor’s founders Gayla and Scott, has turned in to a global ministry with a vision shared by many. Gayla and Scott founded Amor Ministries in 1980 to address the housing needs that were keeping families apart. The first homes were built alongside families in the Tijuana dump who were sending their children to orphanages because they couldn’t provide for them. Thes

e families were desperate to stay together, but resources kept that from being possible. After learning about this, Amor’s Founders decided to do something about it. Today Amor is active in communities throughout Mexico, South Africa, and beyond. Amor Ministries does more than just make life easier for a family in need, we open hearts to truly see the grace and love of Jesus by providing security, safety, and stability. Through the time and energy of our volunteers, Amor has kept over 18,000 families together.

When Erik and Berenice told us how grateful they felt to finally have a safe place to live, they shared that the greatest gift they received wasn't even the house itself.

The greatest gift was the connection they made with the group ❤

Last week was such a blessing! ❤️

We had a busy week out in the field, and it was incredible to see all that was happening — from serving families, building homes, to creating unforgettable moments.

Here’s a little glimpse at what’s been going on in Mexico:

1. First Chinese Baptist Church Los Angeles had their house dedication 🔑 🏠
2. Taco night by our La Cocina team.
3. Field staff Misael checked our upcoming groups' worksites.
4. Rise Student Ministries rocking stucco day.
5. RISING Church prayed over the Aguirre Trinidad family and their new home.

May is Mental Health Awareness month, and we’ve seen firsthand how a home can transform more than just living conditions, it also transforms lives.

Beyond physical safety, there is emotional healing as well. Families have shared how receiving a safe home has improved their mental health and even eased their stress, improved sleep, and brought a sense of peace they didn’t have before!

This past weekend was the Amor 3 Day! Over the course of just three days, over 100 participants joined us in Mexico to build 8 homes alongside families in need. All the families we built alongside expressed their gratitude towards each participant.

Monday Momentos de Amor ❤️🔨🏠

We are excited to have received over 200 trip participants this past weekend! We love having a full camp with so many homes being built and lives being transformed in Mexico.

Take a look at what happened last week as we prepared for our busy weekend of Amor trips:

1. Our tools team made deliveries to the worksites. 🔨
2. Martin made some purchases for our camp.
3. Our field team checked the worksites that our groups will be working at this week.
4. Our La Cocina staff helped set up 80 tents for the Amor 3 Day. ⛺️

Erik and Adela told us how much of an impact their new Amor home had on their two kids! They shared the following with us:

"My kids are so happy with their new house; you can see on their faces that they are calmer and happier now. They’re going to school, and their grades are great.

My son's dream is to become an architect, and my daughter wants to be a doctor. Who am I to stop their dreams? My goal is to always support them, to always be there for them, and my biggest wish is to see them accomplish each goal they have.

Thank you for each detail, each hand that worked on our house to make it happen. Thank you for each smile and each act of kindness towards me and my family.”
