San Bernardino Mountain Search and Rescue Team

Great work by our friends up north. SAR teams not only need technical skills, but also strong communication and collaboration skills to work alongside multiple paid and unpaid responders.

We did it! This past weekend was our Mountain Rescue Association Technical Rope test. Passing this test says that we met standards for rope rescue and that evaluators would be comfortable with us rescuing their family in a situation that required rope rescue in steep terrain. Evaluators take it seriously and we have taken it before and not succeeded.

But this team is persistent. Passing it represents hundreds of volunteer hours of practice and support from our community. Big shout out to Riverside Mountain Rescue Unit who has guided us along this journey.

With this test passed, we have one more test (Snow and Ice) to pass next year to earn MRA accreditation (we passed Search and Tracking last year). Many thanks to our evaluators who volunteered their time, some from Northern California, to evaluate us. And bigger thanks to our family, friends, and colleagues who pick up the slack every time we train and respond to missions.

Great job to all, including 2 of our own team members, on this challenging but successful mission!

Great story on a very technical and demanding rescue by Riverside Mountain Rescue Unit. Three SB Mountain SAR team members, along with members from other SBSAR teams (San Bernardino Cave and Technical Rescue Team, San Gorgonio Search and Rescue Team, and ) joined teams and agencies from Southern California on this successful mission that spanned 3 days.
