International Overdose Awareness Day is coming up at the end of the month at Civic Center Park beginning at 6:30 the evening of August 31st. If you have lost someone special and would like to celebrate their life, we encourage you to bring a memento or photo to add to the display table set up for the purpose of recognizing and honoring those we mourn. This is always a judgement-free and emotional and event and we welcome you with open arms.

“Dan was a true patriot serving in the United States Army and is a Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving from 1968 - 1969, he then served for 28 years with the Missouri Army National Guard and volunteered during Desert Storm, serving at Fort Leonard Wood. He was a 22 year member of the VFW Post 6760 and was the Senior Vice Commander then Junior Vice Commander. He was a faithful Prayer Warrior, having special devotions to the Rosary, Divine Mercy, Saint Michael the Arc Angel, and Saint Joseph. He handed out awards to St. James School for the "Students for Patriots" essays. Dan was a faithful Catholic and a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, serving as an altar boy, lector, communion minister, and singing in the choir. He was a member of the Guadalupe Men's Club at St. Patrick. Dan enjoyed helping with the Poppy Drives for Disabled Veterans, and also helped with the United Way drives. Dan enjoyed running in many charitable marathons. Most of all he loved his Catholic faith and spending time with his family.

He is truly missed by many”

“Sammi is the daughter of Lloyd Weyer and Becky Funk and a lifelong resident of St. Joseph, Missouri. Her life ended far too soon on March 16, 2020, when she was killed in Kansas City.

Her homicide remains unsolved.

Behind the word unsolved is a family that still deserves answers. People who still wonder what happened. People who have carried nearly six years of questions without justice.

Someone may know something. Maybe it seemed insignificant at the time. Maybe fear, loyalty, or uncertainty kept someone quiet. But even the smallest piece of information could matter.

If you have information regarding Sammi Jo Weyer’s death, please consider coming forward and contacting the appropriate law enforcement agency. You can also submit information anonymously through the Kansas City Metropolitan Crime Commission’s TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).

Sammi was more than a case. More than a headline. More than the circumstances of her death.

She was a daughter. She was loved. She was here.

And she has not been forgotten. 💙”

August & September Tribute

Life got a little busy for our team this past month.

While we were in Chicago supporting one of our own and cheering on an incredible group of young athletes at the Jr. Wheelchair Softball World Series, our August tribute came and went a little faster than we expected and we missed our monthly Faces of the Unforgotten Tribute.

But the people we honor are never forgotten just because a date on the calendar passes.

So this month, we’re doing something a little different.

On August 22, we will honor our August and September Faces of the Unforgotten together. 💙

This series has always been about more than making a monthly post. It is about the people behind the names. Their lives. Their stories. The people who love and miss them. And the reminder that every person we have lost was so much more than the circumstances of their death.

Sometimes life gets busy even for those of us doing this work. But our promise remains the same:

Their names matter.
Their stories matter.
Their lives mattered.
And they will not be forgotten.

Please join us on August 22 as we remember and honor both our August and September Faces of the Unforgotten.

🏆 THREE-PEAT CHAMPIONS! 🏆

This month, we had the chance to spend some time in Chicago cheering on Kristins son and his incredible Jr. Wheelchair Softball team as they competed in the Jr. Wheelchair Softball World Series.

And they did it again… WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS for the THIRD year in a row!

We are unbelievably proud of these young athletes. Their talent, determination, teamwork, and heart are something special to witness. They showed up, played hard, supported one another, and brought home another championship!

Moments like these are a pretty great reminder of what young people can accomplish when they’re given the opportunity, support, and space to shine.

Congratulations to the players, coaches, families, and everyone who helped make this possible.
