🦏 PATROL REPORT | 19 AUGUST 2026 🐾

We’re starting a new series to give you a behind-the-scenes look at what conservation and anti-poaching work actually looks like on the ground.

These reports come directly from our partners at Zambezi Parks Support Foundation, whose anti-poaching teams work tirelessly to monitor protected areas, detect threats, and protect Zimbabwe’s wildlife.

📍 Patrol Area: Kanukanu Springs → Sian Simba Springs
🤝 Patrol: Joint patrol with Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks)

🔎 PATROL RESULTS

The team came across a buffalo carcass, estimated to have been killed approximately three days earlier.

The cause of death was determined to be predation, with two large male Lions observed at the site.

🪤 Wire snares found: NONE

That last line might seem simple, but in anti-poaching work, “no snares found” is a result worth celebrating.

Regular patrols are essential for detecting illegal activity, removing threats before wildlife encounters them, and monitoring the health and safety of the ecosystem.

Not every patrol ends with a dramatic discovery. Sometimes, success looks like finding nothing at all.

And that is exactly what we want.

This is what conservation looks like in the field — boots on the ground, miles walked, wildlife monitored, and threats searched for every single day. 🌍

There’s a lot more to this pile of wire than meets the eye. 💔➡️💚

Meet Koa, one of our incredible anti-poaching dogs. At just 1½ years old, this Belgian Malinois is already playing an important role in protecting wildlife in Africa. 🐾🌍

Sitting beside her is a massive collection of wire snares recovered by the anti-poaching unit over the past six months.

Every single one of these snares represents a potential life saved. A snare can mean a poached animal, a devastating injury, or a slow and painful death. Removing them from the landscape is a critical part of protecting wildlife.

But we didn’t want these snares to simply become a pile of discarded wire.

Instead, they’re being given a second life. ♻️✨

ZPSF is working with a local artist who will transform the recovered snares into beautiful, handmade jewelry. The jewelry will then be sold, with the profits going directly back into anti-poaching efforts.

Something created to take a life can now help protect one.

This is conservation in action: removing threats, supporting local communities and artists, and turning something destructive into something that gives back. ❤️

And Koa? She’s just getting started. 🐕‍🦺

Every picture tells a story.

Camera traps allow us to monitor wildlife without disturbing it. They help identify individual animals, track population trends, detect illegal activity, and guide conservation decisions. What might look like "just a photo" can become critical data that helps protect an entire ecosystem.

🐔 Help Us Build a Chicken Coop for Lambo Primary School! 🐔

At SAFCP, we believe conservation starts with community, and one of the most meaningful ways we can support a community is by investing in education.

We're currently raising funds to build a chicken coop at Lambo Primary School in Zimbabwe. While it may seem like a simple project, the impact will be long-lasting for both the students and the school.

As Headmistress Kangetsambo explains:

"Students will learn animal care, biology, and business skills through daily involvement. It turns theory into practice and builds skills they can use after school."

A chicken coop will provide students with hands-on agricultural education, giving them real-world experience caring for animals, understanding food production, and learning basic entrepreneurship. These are practical skills that can help create opportunities far beyond the classroom.

🦒 Happy World Giraffe Day! 🦒

Today we celebrate one of Africa's most iconic and recognizable species—the giraffe.

Standing tall above the savanna, giraffes play an important role in maintaining healthy ecosystems. Yet despite their size, giraffe populations have declined significantly across Africa due to habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict, and poaching.

🌍 Year 2 of Project Musango is officially underway!
📅 July 8th – July 22nd

We’re heading back to Zimbabwe for another incredible two weeks of hands-on conservation and community work—and this year, we’re building on everything we started.

If you followed along last year, you already know the heart behind this project 💛
And this year? We’re doing it all again—and more.

Our team will be:
• Supporting local anti-poaching efforts through boots-on-the-ground assistance and resources
• Continuing work with Lambo Primary School—bringing supplies, support, and ongoing development projects BUILDING A CHICKEN COOP
• Expanding our community outreach to provide sustainable resources for families
• Assisting with conservation initiatives that directly impact wildlife and habitat protection

Project Musango is about connection—between people, wildlife, and the land. It’s about showing up, learning, and creating real, lasting impact alongside the communities who live there every day.
