The September 2 season ending performance of Elvis Tribute Artist Jake Slater was “hot” in more ways than one. A heat index of 95+ degrees and a threat of rain that finally erupted around 8:30 didn’t keep people away and the “King” put on an incredible concert along with the Josh Ramses Band.

St. Johns Lions Club food trailer volunteers were busy serving the usual fare of hot dogs, pulled pork sandwiches, chips, ice cream, and more, using fans to stay cool.

The concert sponsor, the St. Johns Rotary Club, gave away over 100 bags of fresh popcorn (popped by Lions Club members) to commemorate the Rotary’s 100th anniversary.

We are so grateful to the Clinton County Arts Council, the City of St. Johns, and the incredible Bill Tennant for welcoming us back every year. A big thank you to our loyal customers who showed up for us week after week this summer.

Thank you also to tonight’s amazing Lions Club concession crew: Pauline Baert, Jeff & LuAnn Cannell, Gloria Carnicom, Pam Drury, Trina Fitzsimmons, Dean Hartenburg, Hannah Hartenburg, Cheryl Hickey & her sister Cindi Hickey, Nancy Presocki, and Bonnie Smith.

Join us for the last concert of the 2026 season, as Jake Slater takes the stage to pay tribute to the king of rock 'n' roll.

Before we close out this season, we want to give a HUGE round of applause to everyone who helped make it possible.

IPDG Aleta Cozart was celebrated by Lions District 11-C2 at a picnic held in DeWitt on Sunday, August 30. Several members of the St. Johns Lions Club were there to commemorate her successful year as District Governor, including the new District Governor Kenny Kinsey, his wife, Supy, Gloria Carnicom, and Dean and Carrie Hartenburg.

There was a large turnout, with enough “potluck” food dishes to feed the entire town. Lion Aleta received several gifts and many contributions were made to Lions-supported organizations in her name to honor her service. DG Kenny Kinsey presented her with a Past District Governor plaque from Lions International and Club President Dean Hartenburg presented a check for Lions Bear Lake Camp.

Lion Aleta is a rockhound and attendees were given an opportunity to decorate small rocks. Lion Carrie Hartenburg quickly drew a Lion to add to her collection.

Despite a rainy afternoon on August 26, clearing skies led to an unforgettable evening of jazz, swing, blues, rockabilly, country, ballads, and more as the Dave Bennett Quartet returned for its 7th appearance at the William E. Tennant Performance Shell.

Concertgoers kept the St. Johns Lions Club food trailer volunteers busy serving the usual fare of hot dogs, pulled pork sandwiches, fresh popcorn, and more. Thank you to our loyal customers who have supported us week after week this summer. Please come back next Wednesday for the final concert - Jake Slater’s tribute to Elvis with the Josh Ramses Band.

Another great concert at the city park on August 19 with two more to go. The incredible Detroit Retro Society provided some high energy entertainment.

A big crowd kept the volunteers in the St. Johns Lions Club food trailer busy all evening. Thank you to our loyal customers who continue to support us week after week.

The St. Johns Lions Club had another fun and productive meeting on August 13 at Main Street Cafe, with 23 members and two guests in attendance. Lion Carrie Hartenburg, who chaired the meeting in the absence of President Dean Hartenburg, did a great job keeping the meeting on track and even ended it a little early.

Guest speaker Dr. Anthony Berthiaume, Superintendent of St. Johns Public Schools, provided an overview of the school bond proposal that is on the November 3 ballot. He stressed it is a maintenance proposal that will allow the school district to address aging infrastructure. The bond would not increase the current tax rate, extending the current 7.00 mills through 2032. For detailed information about the infrastructure projects, visit www.sjredwings.org/bond-2026/.

The club added another new member, Rebecca “Becky” Worrall, who was sponsored by Lion Duane Witter PDG. Lion Marilyn Witter performed the induction ceremony. Welcome, Lion Becky.

District Governor Kenny Kinsey presented Milestone Chevron Awards to commemorate and recognize the length of service for two members. Lion Gloria Carnicom received an award for 40 years and Lion Marilyn Daniher received an award for 25 years.

Tail-twister John Triantaflos is always coming up with new ideas to liven up meetings. Club members were asked to wear sunglasses and a summer hat to the meeting with members voting on the best summer outfit. Lion Marilyn Witter went a little beyond sunglasses and a hat by wearing a bikini beach coverup. She, of course, was the contest winner and received a gift box with Lions sunglasses and candy as a prize.

WOW - WOW - WOW — those are the best words to describe the concert on August 12 at the city park. It was absolutely packed. The grass seating area was full so people were placing their chairs along the sidewalks. Super Trooper, the ABBA tribute band, put on a high energy show that had concertgoers dancing and singing along.

The St. Johns Lions Club food trailer was there with its usual fare and members were busy serving long lines of customers who waited patiently for their food and beverages. The fresh popcorn was a big hit and the popper was working full speed all evening. Unfortunately, there was no time for photos of the long lines. The only food trailer photo is one of members cleaning up after the rush.
