Can your child identify a “trusted adult” in their life? Trusted adults are people whose words and actions make children feel safe. You can help your child to stay safe this summer, and at all times, by helping them to identify who their trusted adults are. Use this worksheet from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to help your child name at least two trusted adults:https://ncmec.org/content/dam/netsmartz/downloadable/tipsheets/who-is-a-trusted-adult.pdf

Happy Pride Month! We’re celebrating the diversity and strength of the LGBTQIA2S+ community this Pride Month, and at all times.

At the Amani Center, we work to ensure that all children and families experience safety and support. We understand that LGBTQIA2S+ individuals can be at increased risk of abuse and maltreatment, and we are committed to providing trauma-informed care that is inclusive for each and every child we serve.

June is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Awareness Month. At the Amani Center, we see the impact of PTSD not only in the lives of the children and families we serve, but also in the ripple effects it can create throughout our community. Children’s Advocacy Centers like the Amani Center support child abuse victims experiencing PTSD, helping guide them on the road to healing and recovery after abuse.

PTSD can affect anyone who has experienced traumatic events such as combat, assault, natural disasters, abuse and other forms of trauma. Although PTSD is experienced by many people all over the country, many don’t seek help. You don’t have to face PTSD alone - effective treatment is available. Visit the National Center for PTSD for resources: https://www.ptsd.va.gov/understand/awareness/index.asp
