From training to Trunk-or-Treat, our spooky season calendar is full of activities. 🎃 And all this practice with team lifts? It’ll come in handy when we’re hauling all that candy. Come see us on October 24th at St Helen’s Middle School and help us lighten the load! 🍬”

It’s that time of year! Come join an amazing team and learn new skills!

🥾🐾 Training Together. Learning Together. Ready Together.

This weekend, members of Columbia County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue had the opportunity to attend Mt. Hood SARCON at Timothy Lake, joining more than 150 Search & Rescue volunteers for a weekend of training, teamwork, and a large-scale mock mission.

We trained alongside:
Clackamas County Search & Rescue
Multnomah County Search & Rescue
Portland Mountain Rescue
Pacific Northwest Search & Rescue
Timberline Ski Patrol
Columbia County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue

Saturday was packed with hands-on training including patient care, hypothermia and CPR, search management, drones, K9s and more. Sunday brought it all together with a realistic mock search involving ground teams, K9s, drones, ATVs, water rescue and medical teams.

A HUGE thank you to Clackamas County SAR and everyone who organized, taught, fed, coordinated and welcomed us this weekend. We learned a lot, made new connections, and had a great time working alongside some truly dedicated SAR volunteers.

CCSO SAR is incredibly grateful to have been invited, and we hope this becomes something we get to do again and again! 💛

When the call comes, it’s pretty amazing knowing these are the people we may be standing beside.

Thank you OPCA state detection dog trainer and Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Colburn for coming out to test team R***r on large source HRD. R***r ranged well and the rain held off just long enough for him to find and alert on the hide! Proud of this boy! Thanks also to Scott Lee, Thomas Harper and Eric Bryant for proctoring this test and cheering us on! You all are very appreciated!

Last week the Columbia County Sheriff Search and Rescue K9 trailing team headed to Bend for a 3 day trailing workshop hosted by Webb’s K9 training. Team lead Becky and her K9 Cooper, and teammate Mackenzie and her K9 Spyro completed a 24 hour course taught by National trailing instructors Dr. Coby Webb and Lt. Daniel Thamert. Both handlers and K9’s, along with K9 teams from Oregon and California met the challenging trails and environmental conditions with enthusiasm and competence. Becky and Mackenzie are excited to add what they learned to their training program.

Today we celebrate an incredible milestone for five of our newest Columbia County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue members!

After months of dedication, training, studying, and countless hours of hands-on practice, they have officially earned their CCSO Search & Rescue Certification.

To reach this point, each member successfully completed:
• The Oregon State written examination
• Physical agility testing
• Extensive practical skills evaluations, including first aid, navigation, litter carries, incident command, search tactics, and much more.

Becoming certified means they are now qualified to deploy not only within Columbia County, but also throughout Oregon whenever additional search and rescue resources are needed.

This achievement represents far more than passing a test. It reflects commitment, perseverance, teamwork, and a shared passion for serving others.

We are incredibly proud of these five volunteers and grateful for the instructors, mentors, and experienced team members who dedicated their time to training and preparing our newest responders.

Please join us in congratulating our newest certified CCSO Search & Rescue members! Your community is stronger because of your willingness to serve.

Congratulations—and welcome to the next chapter. We can’t wait to see where this journey takes you.

Congratulations Haley, Sam, Dustin, Evan and Dylan (not pictured)
