The mission of Betty Griffin Center is to work to end domestic violence and sexual abuse. Our focus is to offer protection and quality services to victims and their children through the operation of a safe and secure shelter and outreach programs, offering assistance, counseling, and transitional support while educating the community and raising awareness. Our Betty Griffin Thrift Shoppes are both open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. and closed on Sundays. Our Executive Director, Kelly Franklin, recently spent the day learning, connecting, and sharing ideas at the Rotary District 6970 Vibrant Club Seminar.

Kelly attended in her role as Public Image Director for the Rotary Club of St. Augustine, Sunset, participating in training sessions focused on helping Rotary clubs strengthen their impact and engagement.

She also had the opportunity to meet the seminar’s featured guest speaker, retired NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration astronaut, U.S. Marine Corps Colonel, and former Space Shuttle Commander George D. Zamka.

We may be a little biased, but we think Kelly is pretty out of this world, too. 🚀

Only 10 spots remain for this free personal safety and awareness class for women and girls ages 13 and older.

The Rotary Club of St. Augustine, Sunset is partnering with the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office to present Women Against Violent Encounters (W.A.V.E.) on Wednesday, September 16th, from 5:30–7:30 p.m. at Cowan Financial Group, 3275 US 1 South, St. Augustine, FL 32086.

Participants will learn situational awareness, verbal strategies, and physical escape techniques from an all-woman instructor team representing the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, St. Augustine Police Department, and St. Augustine Beach Police Department.

Two training levels are available. Level One includes demonstrations with no hands-on training, while Level Two includes instruction in strikes and escapes and is limited to 30 participants.

There is no charge to attend, and Cowan Financial Group will provide pizza and drinks during the intermission.

Every mile matters when it helps support survivors in our community. 👟

Join us on Saturday, September 19th, for the inaugural Miles That Matter 5K by Momentum Fit benefiting Betty Griffin Center.

The 5K begins at 9:00 a.m. on the sand at the Seawalk Pavilion, 75 1st Street North in Jacksonville Beach. Run, jog, or walk the course, then enjoy vendors, music, food, and more at the pavilion.

Every step helps support Betty Griffin Center’s work serving survivors of domestic violence and s*xual assault and their minor children.

An active bystander is someone who interrupts a potentially harmful situation, especially when it comes to s*xual violence. They may not be directly involved, but they do have the choice and opportunity to speak up and intervene.”

When you accidentally buy the staff uniform, you might as well have some fun with it. 😂

A safer school year starts at home — with fi****ms stored securely and responsibly.

As we start a new school year, one of the smartest things adults can do to keep kids, classrooms, and communities safe from gun violence is to raise awareness about secure gun storage.

Securing fi****ms is one of the best ways to keep our schools and communities safe from gun violence. To make this the safest school year yet, SMART Week will be from August 24th to 28th.

Secure all guns in homes and vehicles.
Model responsible behavior around guns.
Ask about the presence of unsecured fi****ms in other homes your child visits.
Recognize the role of guns in su***de.
Tell your peers to Be SMART.

Our Quarter Auction is coming together, thanks to some generous community partners — and there’s still room to be part of it!

Admission is $20 and includes a bidding paddle, wine, beer, soft drinks, and light snacks. Golden Paddles are available for $75 and automatically enter you into every live auction — no quarters needed. Silent auction items are not included.
