Today, AB 1672 will be heard in the Senate Health Committee.

This bill will strengthen transparency and accountability in the PACE rate-setting process, helping providers better understand how rates are developed and supporting long-term stability for community-based care programs serving medically complex older adults across California.

This means means greater stability for providers, better long-term planning, and stronger support for the older adults who rely on PACE to remain safely in their homes and communities.

June is Pride Month.

At CalPACE, we believe every older adult deserves dignity, respect, connection, and access to quality care that honors who they are and the communities they come from.

As we recognize Pride Month, we celebrate LGBTQ+ older adults and the many individuals, caregivers, providers, and advocates helping build more inclusive and supportive systems of care across California.

Thank you to the California State Assembly for recognizing the importance of timely access to the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) by including funding for additional state nurses who review and evaluate applications for enrollment into PACE.

These nurses play a critical role in the enrollment process, and increasing staffing capacity will help reduce delays and connect eligible older adults with comprehensive care and services more quickly.

We also appreciate the Assembly's willingness to delay implementation of the proposed PACE rate cap. While this action provides additional time for discussion and analysis, we remain concerned about the long-term impact such a policy could have on PACE organizations' ability to sustainably serve California's most vulnerable older adults.

PACE has a proven track record of improving outcomes, supporting independence, and helping older adults remain in their homes and communities. As budget negotiations continue, we look forward to working with policymakers to protect and strengthen access to this vital program.

As part of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and our ongoing member spotlight, we’re recognizing the importance of culturally responsive, community-based care.

Across California, PACE programs are rooted in the communities they serve, supporting older adults through connection, culture, and shared experiences.

Organizations like Center for Elders’ Independence reflect this approach by showing up in the communities they serve. Participating in events like Oakland’s Chinese Lunar New Year celebration is one way to stay connected to the traditions and cultures that matter to participants.

Today, CalPACE thanks the California Senate for rejecting the Administration’s proposal to impose an additional cap on PACE rates. This decision helps protect stability for California’s PACE programs and the older adults who rely on coordinated, community-based care to remain healthy, independent, and connected to the services they need.

PACE works because it provides comprehensive care built around the whole person, supporting seniors with complex medical and long-term care needs while helping them remain in their homes and communities.

We appreciate the Senate’s recognition of the importance of sustaining access to quality care for California’s aging population and look forward to continued partnership as budget discussions move forward.

Meet, Greet & Speak is just one month away, and we’re excited to welcome an incredible lineup of speakers for this year’s featured session: “The Future of Duals Care in California: Why PACE Matters”

As California continues evolving care for dual eligible beneficiaries, this conversation will explore what PACE organizations should be paying attention to, what’s ahead in the policy landscape, and how the PACE model continues to play a critical role in delivering person-centered care for medically complex older adults.

A special thank you to our sponsor SilverRide for helping make Meet, Greet & Speak possible. We’re looking forward to bringing together PACE leaders, partners, and experts from across California for an engaging and timely conversation.

: Let’s talk outcomes.

Research consistently shows lower rates of hospitalization, readmission, and potentially avoidable hospitalizations among PACE participants compared to similar populations. Coordinated, community-based care helps keep people healthier and supported where they want to be: at home and in their communities.
