There are moments when a community comes together to build something that will last for generations.

This is one of those moments.

In the coming days, hundreds of volunteers will gather in our Downtown Romeo Village Park, not just to build a playscape, but to build childhood memories. Every board fastened, every shovel of mulch spread, every hour volunteered will become part of a place where children will laugh, parents will connect, grandparents will watch with pride, and friendships will begin.

Whether you can give a few hours or an entire day, your hands can help create a space that says to every young family who visits our downtown:

"You belong here."

This project isn't about building a playground.

It's about building community.

It's about neighbors working beside neighbors, local businesses supporting local families, and proving once again that when Romeo comes together, extraordinary things happen.

If you've ever wanted to leave your mark on this community...
If you've ever wanted to give something back...
If you've ever wanted to be part of something bigger than yourself...

Now is your moment.

Join us as we build more than a playscape.

Let's build a place where childhood happens, where families gather, and where the heart of our village grows stronger for generations to come.

❤️ Volunteer today. Bring a friend. Bring your family. Together, let's build Romeo's next great community space.

M-53 Repair Update

Yesterday, I attended yet another meeting with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) after weeks of waiting with little movement while they worked through the permit process. I know many residents have been asking for an update, and I share your frustration.

At this time, MDOT is tentatively planning to begin repairs on southbound M-53 near 32 Mile Road on, August 12.

MDOT has advised that they expect to issue a formal update on July 29 with details on the scope of work and the anticipated duration of the project. Message boards are expected to be installed approximately 10 days before work begins.

Tentative Detour Routes:

Westward Detour
• West on 34 Mile Road
• South on Fisher Road
• East on 32 Mile Road
• South on Mound Road
• East on 30 Mile Road back to M-53

Eastward Detour
• East on Ebeling Road
• East on Armada Center Road
• South on Romeo Plank Road
• West on 26 Mile Road back to M-53

Please understand that this is still not a 100% confirmed start date. MDOT has indicated there are still several variables that could affect the schedule. However, contractors are lined up, and everyone is working toward the August 12 start.

The current plan is to begin work after the Wednesday evening rush hour and, if all goes as planned, have the repairs completed and the roadway reopened by Monday morning rush hour that same weekend.

This ongoing delay has been increasingly frustrating not only for me, but also for my counterparts in Romeo Village, Bruce Township, and the municipalities north of Washington Township. We have continued to press MDOT for answers and to move this project forward as quickly as possible.

If you have questions regarding the project, please contact MDOT directly at [email protected].

As always, I will continue to provide updates as soon as new information becomes available.

🔺EDIT🔺 Again today, July 17th:
Due to poor air quality, our waste collection crews are moving more slowly than usual while prioritizing employee safety.

If your garbage or yard waste was missed today, please leave it at the curb. Crews are working to collect all missed stops as quickly as possible and will try again tomorrow, July 18th.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through these delays. Thank you for your cooperation!
