Why are we doing recalls of elected board members?

We believe school board decisions involving taxpayer dollars, superintendent contract negotiations, and major district decisions should be handled with integrity, transparency, responsibility, and with public trust. This effort was started because many community members believe recent actions by board members do not reflect these aspects. There has been no accountability or the leadership our community deserves.

Our concerns include the excessive amount of taxpayer funds spent on attorney fees during the 2024–2025 school year, with continued spending into the 2025–2026 school year. Community members estimate these costs have exceeded half a million dollars.

Residents are also concerned about meetings and discussions involving Thrun Law Firm that allegedly took place outside of open session and without the knowledge of the full Board of Education.

These funds should be focused on supporting our students, classrooms, and educational programs — not ongoing legal battles and closed-door decision-making.

We believe these actions demonstrate a disregard for transparency and the Michigan Open Meetings Act.
