Thank you to our presenters - Hon. Stephen Miller, Deborah M. Field, Langston McFadden, and Mallory Smith - for a thoughtful and candid conversation about civility, professionalism, and the way we interact with one another, both in and outside the courtroom, at the MCBA's CLE program yesterday. These are important conversations for attorneys at every stage of their careers, and we were especially glad to see several newly admitted attorneys in the room.

Thank you as well to Judge Bill Taylor and his team for welcoming us into the newly renovated Bergin Room, and to Kammholz Law PLLCfor sponsoring the program.

And, of course, thank you to everyone who joined us!

Join us in celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month!

MCBA is proud to partner with the Seventh Judicial District and our fellow bar associations and community partners for a special Hispanic Heritage Month celebration on Thursday, October 8, from 12:15–1:15 p.m. at the Monroe County Hall of Justice, Courtroom 404.

The program will feature guest panelists, a musical performance by students from Eugenio María de Hostos Charter School, food sampling, and more.

The celebration is open to those who would like to attend in person, with a Microsoft Teams option also available for remote participation. English-to-Spanish and English-to-ASL interpreting services will be provided.

We hope you’ll join us as we come together to celebrate Hispanic heritage, culture, and community!

We had a wonderful time coming together for our annual Constitution Day celebration — with great food, great conversations, and an opportunity to reflect on the Constitution and the role of the legal community in upholding the rule of law.

A special thank you to Jim Hinman for organizing the event, and to Hon. Stephen Miller, Hon. Richard Dollinger, and MCBA President Christin Cornetta for sharing remarks with those gathered.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the celebration so meaningful. We’re grateful for the opportunity to bring members of our legal community together for conversation, connection, and reflection.

Please help us spread the word! Join us on Monday, September 28, from 5:30–7:00 p.m. via Zoom for How to Register and Vote & What You Need to Know: A Community Presentation. This is a free program designed to provide clear, reliable and nonpartisan information about voting in New York.

Our panelists will cover voter registration, what to expect when casting your ballot, how New York’s voting machines work, early and absentee voting, important deadlines, language and interpreter assistance, voting rights and election security, recent legal developments affecting voters, and more. Participants will also have an opportunity to ask questions directly of our panelists.

Presented by the Lawyers’ Coalition for Racial and Social Justice — the Monroe County Bar Association, Rochester Black Bar Association, and Greater Rochester Association for Women Attorneys — in collaboration with the Bar Association of Erie County, Ibero American Action League, League of Women Voters of the Rochester Metropolitan Area, and Urban League of Rochester.

A great turnout today as the MCBA Criminal Justice Section kicked off the 2026–27 Bar Year with its first Section meeting and CLE, “The Case After the Case: Understanding CPL § 440.20 and the Essential Skills of Post-Conviction Litigation.”

Thank you to Marty McCarthy, Esq., Chief of the Appeals Bureau at the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office, for sharing his knowledge and expertise; Hon. Michael Ansaldi, Chair of the Criminal Justice Section, for his leadership in bringing the program together; and the 7th Judicial District for hosting our group at the Hall of Justice.

It was wonderful to see such a great group for an afternoon of learning, discussion, and connection. We’re looking forward to another active year for the Criminal Justice Section so if you haven't joined, now is a great time to do so! Just reach out to Susan Hearn at [email protected].
