There’s a lot of healing that happens while we do “ranch work” around Refuge. Feeding the animals, riding the horses, mucking stalls, etc. It’s important work. It teaches ownership, responsibility, grit and so much more!
There’s also a lot of healing that can happen through play at Refuge. Recently, Dylan had been talking super heroes with his mentees. He was eager to show them his Wolverine costume and his mentees were excited to see it! It hasn’t been uncommon to see Dylan and his mentees playing around Refuge in their costumes, this month.
One of his mentees, invited his brothers to also dress up and to play! Then, Alec (one of our board members) and his mentee, broke out their guitars, to play suspenseful music to go along with the superhero play. Before we knew it, we had a full superhero movie happening!
We can create a lot of spaces at Refuge, but it’s so sweet when a child invites us into their space to play. The laughing, the memories, the imagination. We already felt like our mentors were superheroes, this week, they finally got the opportunity to wear their capes (or a really fun costume).
