With a lack of opportunities that are afforded to small schools like both of ours, the South Fork/Edinburg Red Cross was created by and ran by students that wanted to help increase the educational opportunities for their schools. Since our inception three years ago, we have helped increase student involvement in the community, along with further developing leadership skills. We have raised money t
o help: flood victims, people who need help in our communities, school events and projects, and other disaster relief efforts. Our group also sends care packages to troops, helps Angel Tree, donates school supplies for those in need, run four blood drives a year, help work with habitat for humanity, and many other service projects as needed. Now, as we expand our group and continue to do these things, we have come up with a great educational opportunity for the students to expand their perspectives and ways of thinking by going on an educational tour in Europe. In order to do so, our students have worked a lot of hours doing service and labor jobs to try to afford it. We are a small and lower socio economic community, so we are trying not to have to sell a lot of things and could really use your help by donating to our worthy endeavor.
