Monday is a Union Activity Day for all of our Frontier members as we celebrate you—and what we believe is one of the most important holidays of the year: Labor Day.

Labor Day means much more than the unofficial end of summer or kids heading back to school. It is a day to recognize and celebrate the American worker and the generations of working people who fought to improve our workplaces and our lives.

Before the labor movement, workers had few protections. There were no meaningful limits on the number of days or hours people could be required to work, and benefits we now value—overtime pay, paid sick time, vacations, holidays, health care, and retirement benefits—were far from guaranteed.

Those improvements did not happen by accident. They were won through the collective efforts of American workers and labor unions.

We owe a debt of gratitude to every member who came before us—and to all of you today—who have picketed, rallied, gone on strike, stood together, and had the courage and determination to stand your ground.

Because of that solidarity, our members have earned benefits we can be proud of, including paid health care with no deductibles, retirement benefits after age 65, an 8% retirement contribution, guaranteed bonuses, and annual wage increases.

Together, we have accomplished a great deal—but our work is not finished.

Our struggles on the job continue as we confront issues such as company surveillance, artificial intelligence, affordable health care, and the ability to retire with dignity. Our ability to protect what we have earned—and continue making progress—depends on our determination to stand together and maintain a strong Union.

We have even more to be proud of this year as we culminated two years of bargaining at Frontier with a new contract that provides the good wages, benefits, and job protections that our members and their families depend on.

This Labor Day, I urge all of you to join us for the annual City of Rochester Labor Day Parade and celebration at Red Wings Stadium on Monday.

We will have a float in the parade and will meet at our usual location on Meigs Street between Park Avenue and East Avenue. We’ll also have red Union T-shirts for everyone who marches.

Following the parade, join us at Red Wings Stadium for the Labor Day celebration from noon until 2:30 p.m.**, prior to the **4:00 p.m. game.

Labor Day belongs to working people. It is an opportunity to celebrate everything we have accomplished, remember those who fought before us, and recommit ourselves to standing together for the future.

The Union is saddened to announce the passing of retiree Douglas Perrine. Doug passed away on August 28th at the age of 78. Doug retired as a cable splicer in 2018 and was originally hired in 1969.
On behalf of the Union we extend our condolences to Doug's family and friends. The following arrangements have been announced:

Calling hours: Saturday September 12th, 1-4pm at the Eaton-Watson Funeral Home, 98 North Main St. in Perry.

Services will follow at 4pm.

Labor Day Parade — Monday, September 7th

A reminder that CWA Local 1170 will be participating in the City of Rochester Annual Labor Day Parade on Monday, September 7th.

Angela has sent out information with the parade times and activities. We encourage all of our members to come out and march with us.

The Union has accomplished a great deal for our members this year. None of these accomplishments would have been possible without our right to collectively bargain.

Together, we have made major wage and benefit gains that will have a positive impact on the future of our members and their families.

We are asking you to commit just a couple of hours of your time this Labor Day to stand together, march together, and show your Union Pride!

A day of rememberance for our Union Brother.

On this day in 1989, our CWA 1103 brother Chief Steward Gerry Horgan was killed by a car intentionally driven into a NYNEX picket line. A cable splicer with New York Telephone, he was striking for better conditions and against NYNEX’s effort to get workers to pay part of the cost of their health insurance premiums.

Gerry had a wife and two daughters. At his funeral, a line of CWAers wearing red stretched for a mile along the route to the church.

Membership Announcement Genesee Coop FCU

We are pleased to announce that we have reached a new three-year collective bargaining agreement with management. This agreement reflects the hard work, dedication, and solidarity of our membership throughout the negotiation process.

The new contract delivers meaningful improvements to wages, benefits, and working conditions while recognizing the important contributions our members make every day. This agreement represents a positive step forward and provides greater security and opportunity for all members.

Highlights of the New Agreement Include:

Annual wage increases for all steps effective:
January 1, 2027 – 4.25%
January 1, 2028 – 3.50%
January 1, 2029 – 3.50%

Once reaching top step the Credit Union may provide an additional increase based on performance of up to 5%.

Transition from an annual bonus program to quarterly bonus opportunities, with quarterly incentive payouts of:
$500 in 2026
$525 in 2027
$550 in 2028
$575 in 2029

Employer-paid health insurance providing 100% coverage for the single plan, along with an employer-funded Health Savings Account contribution of $500 per year.

An increase in the employer retirement contribution from 25% to 100% of the employee's 4% contribution.

Transition to a front-loaded vacation allotment rather than weekly accruals, providing employees with greater flexibility to schedule and utilize earned time off.

A new professional development provision that gives employees greater input into identifying and pursuing career development opportunities, helping members build skills, enhance their professional growth, and prepare for future advancement.

A $1,000 ratification bonus payable within 30 days of contract ratification.

This agreement represents a significant investment in our members and their families and reflects the strength of our collective voice at the bargaining table.

We would like to thank the bargaining committee, union leadership, and all members for their support, patience, and solidarity throughout the negotiations. Together, we have secured a contract that rewards our work, strengthens our benefits, expands opportunities for professional growth, and positions us for continued success over the next three years.
