💚Mayday Alert for the Maladeew family💚

New York’s Brett Malafeew dedicated 22 years of service to the Ridge Road Fire District and was a respected leader within IAFF Local 3794 for much of his career. Before retiring in 2022, he served as Union President and earned the trust of fellow firefighters through his honesty, reliability, and commitment to the profession. During his career, Brett responded to deployments in Texas following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, assisted with flooding in the City of Binghamton, and supported recovery efforts on Long Island after Hurricane Sandy. He was a familiar presence in the firehouse, regularly covering open shifts and offering guidance to firefighters and officers who sought his advice. Brett retired at the age of 44 with the hope of spending more time with his family after years of dedicated service.

In October 2025, after experiencing ongoing medical concerns, Brett was diagnosed with bladder and prostate cancer that is presumed to be related to his career in the fire service. He underwent a lengthy surgery at the Cleveland Clinic to remove the cancer, but in May 2026 he learned that it had spread to his lymph nodes. Brett continues to face the challenges of job related cancer with determination and resilience. While undergoing treatment, he has become a strong advocate for regular cancer screenings and proper use of personal protective equipment to help protect both active and retired firefighters. At 48 years old, Brett remains committed to supporting the fire service community while continuing his own fight against cancer; let’s show Brett we support him just the same.

Firefighters from Group 4 are filling into North Greece Station 3 while the Ridge Road Fire District is working a 2nd alarm fire with people trapped. Engine 204 is now responding to a report of a structure fire in the North Greece Fire District

The members of Lake Shore Professional Firefighters Local 3981 extend our deepest condolences to our brothers and sisters of the Rochester Fire Department as they mourn the heartbreaking loss of Lieutenant John Joseph.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Lt. Joseph’s family, friends, and the entire Rochester Fire Department during this incredibly difficult time. The bond of the fire service is one of family, and today we stand beside you in grief as you honor a dedicated firefighter, leader, and public servant.

May his memory be a blessing, and may his legacy of service never be forgotten.

Today we celebrate the 250th birthday of America. A milestone that honors the courage, sacrifice, and spirit that have shaped our nation for generations.

As you gather with family and friends, we ask everyone to celebrate responsibly and help make this Independence Day a safe one for all.

🎆 Firework Safety
• Leave fireworks to the professionals whenever possible.
• Keep children and pets a safe distance away from fireworks.
• Have a hose or bucket of water nearby.
• Never relight a firework that fails to ignite.

🚤 Water & Boating Safety
• Wear a properly fitted life jacket.
• Never operate a boat under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
• Keep an eye on changing weather conditions.
• Always designate a sober operator and let someone know your plans before heading out on the water.

Our firefighters from group 1 will be on duty throughout the holiday, ready to respond whenever needed. You can help us by making smart decisions and looking out for one another.

Our members were proud to help instruct and mentor the next generation of first responders through the Greece CSD RTE program.

It’s always rewarding to share our knowledge, experience, and passion for the fire service with these dedicated students as they begin their journey into emergency services. We look forward to continuing to support the Greece RTE program and helping develop the future of the fire service and public safety.
