The Monroe County Federation of Social Workers, IUE-CWA Local 81381, is the oldest public sector social worker union in the United States of America. During our more than fifty years of existence we have provided diligent representation to our membership, which now includes more than nine hundred employees of the County of Monroe in upstate New York. Our members are dedicated human service professionals who are both caring and committed to the entire community. Their tireless efforts at their jobs, and also as volunteers supporting many local charities, have improved the quality of life for everyone in Monroe County.

๐ŸŽ“ The Federation of Social Workers is proud to announce that the 2026 winners of the Ed Grabowski/Dina Finn Memorial Scholarships are: Amari Pugh, Lexie Alaimo & Kendrell Brooks!
The winners were chosen based not only on their academic achievements, but also on their efforts as volunteers for the Federation.

๐ŸŽ‰ ๐—”๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ถ ๐—ฃ๐˜‚๐—ด๐—ต is a recent graduate of Rochester Early College International High School. She will be attending Paine College and plans to study Psychology. Amari has participated in the Pride Parade, Juneteenth Parade and has provided childcare during membership meetings as well as volunteering during Halloween events. She has also served food and participated during Labor Day for over several years. Amari was nominated by FSW Member LaWanda Shipman.

๐ŸŽ‰ ๐—Ÿ๐—ฒ๐˜…๐—ถ๐—ฒ ๐—”๐—น๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐—บ๐—ผ is a recent graduate of Irondequoit High School. She will be attending SUNY Brockport and plans to study Theatre. Lexie has participated in FSW Parades with her grandmother when she was younger and has helped set up & cleaned up after certain
events. She is participating in the upcoming Kidney Walk and has also recently helped organize and sort shirts for FSW with her grandma. Lexie was nominated by FSW Member Michelle McGrain.

FEDERATION OF SOCIAL WORKERS ANNOUNCES ITS LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD HONOREES FOR 2026!

At our Human Service Awards luncheon on Friday, October 30th at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center, we will be honoring three extraordinary individuals, who have done much to improve the quality of life for others throughout their respective careers.

โœจ Our first honoree is Deanna Dewberry, who is a multi-award-winning anchor and investigative consumer reporter for WHEC TV, with more than two decades of experience in television news. She is also a four-time cancer survivor, who is actively involved in community activities that enrich the lives of cancer survivors and promote research.

โœจ Our other two honorees are Lori Bruno and Chris Bruno, both of whom have worked more than three decades in public sector human service jobs serving local children and families in need. Lori and Chris also founded the local non-profit organization Alyssa's Angels Rochester twenty years ago, after losing their daughter Alyssa Rose to brain cancer. ๐Ÿ† 20th ANNUAL HUMAN SERVICE AWARDS

The Federation of Social Workers is asking the community to nominate individuals and organizations to be honored at our 20th Annual Awards luncheon, which will be held on Friday, October 30th at the Joseph Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center.

Previous honorees have come from a variety of areas of human service, including: healthcare, education, law enforcement, social work, entertainment, volunteering, as well as exceptional families and youth contributors. Corporate and non-profit organizations will also be honored.

The 21st annual FSW-Alyssa's Angels Rochester golf tournament was held yesterday at Wild Wood Country Club.

We are extremely grateful to everyone who played in, sponsored or donated a prize to our event. It was very successful despite the challenging weather conditions. Thank you to our wonderful volunteers and the excellent staff at Wild Wood Country Club.

๐Ÿ† Our FSW Member of the Month for January is Linda Buff! She has worked at MCDHS for 15 years and is currently an eligibility evaluator in Income Eligible Daycare. Linda is being recognized for leading a Women's Committee project, which distributed 750 Holiday Cards to residents at two local nursing facilities: St. Johns and Monroe Community Hospital. FSW members collected and signed each card with love, and they were greatly appreciated by the residents who received them.
