Unicon Rochester UNiCON: Unions and Businesses United in Construction

UNICON has a long history of working towards economic development and social improvement in the greater Rochester/Finger Lakes NY region. Because of this, we have the resources available to effectively advocate for the interest of our members and our community as a whole. To support our private sector, UNICON joins with other community groups in a mission to develop opportunities and economic incentives for local developers and businesses. We strongly encourage and support growth in private sector business and work to promote initiatives that cultivate and expand the future economic development of the region. To advance our public initiatives, UNICON has taken a leading role in the community by advocating for capital improvements and community initiatives with our Federal, state and regional representatives. We work to educate and build consensus among our elected officials, and to gain support for social initiatives and local projects that will benefit the entire community.

UNiCON Rochester's Partner Feature: IUOE Local 158

Founded in 2011 following a merger of three separate local unions, Local 158 currently represents more than 4,000 heavy equipment operators, mechanics, and stationary engineers in New York State’s public and private sectors. The three districts represent the territories of each of the original local unions – Local 106, Local 545, and Local 832 – and each office is fully staffed to service the needs of their members. They are now one local union, but maintaining these district boundaries preserves the pride and allegiance which is so important to long-time members and retirees.

UNiCON Rochester's Partner Feature: Carpenters Local 276 WNY

The North Atlantic States Carpenters Training Fund Apprentice Program is a five-level commitment that is a combination of classroom learning and job site employment. Apprentices attend classes for one week every three months, a system designed to accommodate the needs of the contractors and apprentices alike. The program allows carpenters apprentices to earn wages and benefits that enable them to provide for themselves and their families, while learning from the most experienced professionals in both training environments. As a result, apprentices are continuously building upon their knowledge and skill base in a practical construction site setting.
