KOVAR is proud to work with great organizations like Nest Academy RVA. KOVAR recently made a $20,000 grant to Nest Academy to support Adaptive Adventures, a series of adaptive field trips that enable their students to engage in the community, classroom materials, and Scholarships. While a number of special needs programs exist in the Richmond area, they serve a higher-functioning population. Nest is filling a void in Richmond, focusing on those who are not served in traditional programs due to complex disabilities requiring high personal and medical care needs.

KOVAR awarded $15,000 to FACT (Families of Autism Coming Together) that was used for their matching funds for a Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation grant for five activity busses.

The mission of FACT is to improve the quality of life for autistic individuals and their families in Hampton Roads. FACT provides social, recreational, and vocational programs that enhance social and communication skills and promote community integration.
The activity busses will be used during their seven-week Summer Camp with a total of 280 participants (40 per week). They take daily trips including the beach, water park, Top Golf, and Putt-Putt golf. They will be used during the school year to provide transportation from two middle schools and two high schools in Portsmouth to the Virginia Beach facility for after school programs. They will also support the 30 hours of social and recreational activities 6 days a week from September to June.

Pam Vogle, FACT Chief Executive Officer from 1998 until 2020 was selected as the Honoree for this grant. John Cochran, KOVAR Board Member and past Present of KOVAR Corporation presented Pam with her plaque.

It has truly been an honor and a privilege to serve as your KOVAR President for the last three years. It has been a lot of work but rewarding beyond comparison.

Please welcome Vance Stewart as the next President (effective July 1, 2026). I will stay on the Board as a member, and I am excited to see what the next few years brings! Our best days are ahead of us!

Please also continue to pray for us as we work for Virginians with Intellectual Disabilities.

KOVAR has been providing great assistance to Virginians with Intellectual Disabilities since 1971. KOVAR could not do it without the support of so many generous individuals, Knights of Columbus Councils, and organizations donating their time, talent, and treasure. KOVAR is also grateful for the assistance of so many parish pastors like Father Mike Renninger of St. Mary's in Henrico County. Recently KOVAR President, Eddie Whitlock, and Vice-President of Home Loans, Mike Szablak, presented Fr. Mike a plaque recognizing him as the honoree of a recent grant.

How was your Saturday? Mine was great. I had the honor of presiding over my last Board meeting of KOVAR Corporation, as I completed three years as President – I will continue as a Board member. KOVAR is a Virginia Knights of Columbus charity assisting Virginians with Intellectual Disabilities. Following our Board meeting I had the opportunity to meet some of the athletes participating in the Virginia Special Olympics at the University of Richmond and even had the opportunity to present medals. It warms the heart!
