Meet Norman, RDR’s newest little lovebug! 🖤

At just 7 months old and a whopping 10 pounds, Norman is basically a pocket-sized package of pure personality. He’s happy, playful, ridiculously adorable, and a certified Stage 4 clinger. Seriously, personal space is not in his vocabulary. Want a shadow? Norman’s your guy!

Don’t let those 10 pounds fool you, though. This little dude is convinced he’s 100 pounds and absolutely believes he can out-tough the big boys. He’s got the confidence, the attitude, and the entertainment value to back it up!

Norman would love a canine buddy to play with and a human who doesn’t mind having a tiny best friend underfoot at all times. He’s just a cool, fun little dude who’s ready to make himself right at home in someone’s heart.

Think your life could use a little more Norman? We think so, too!

FOSTER FOUND!

We’re looking for a temporary foster home for this 14-year-old bulldog from now until Oct 27th when he can go to a fospice home. He was surrendered to a local shelter. He has some arthritis but appears to be dog-friendly and deserving of a loving place to spend his golden years.

Interested in learning more about fospice? Check out Posy’s Pocket. Could you be this sweet senior’s hero?

Help us build 15 dog houses for dogs in need! 🐶💖

For the second year, Salem’s Light is teaming up with Professional Women in Building (PWB) to build 15 sturdy, durable dog houses for dogs in need throughout metro Richmond. Ring Dog Rescue and local animal control agencies will help distribute the houses to dogs who spend most, and sometimes all, of their lives outdoors.

A $175 donation sponsors an entire dog house and covers the approximate cost of materials. Sponsors can even personalize their house with a hand-painted sign!

Donations of any amount help us reach our $2,650 goal, and anything raised beyond that will support Salem’s Light outreach, including spay/neuter and veterinary care.

Donate via Venmo or email [email protected] for information on donating by check. Every donation helps turn lumber into shelter for a dog who needs it. 🐾

This handsome hound is Wi******er! He is sweet, silly, affectionate and full of personality. He loves his people, loves to cuddle, sleeps with his person and is great with kids. He’s also playful with other dogs and we think he’d do best with a confident canine companion.

Wi******er is fully house trained and walks well on a leash, but he definitely comes with some naughty hound quirks! He’s working on curbing his mischievous curiosities when unsupervised but luckily he’s great at being crated if he needs to be put up.

He is very attached to his person and can whine or cry a little when separated. Because of this, an apartment probably isn’t the best fit.

A 6 foot fence or regular leash walks are required because Wi******er can jump a fence and he cannot share a home with kitties… all typical houndism’s!

Wi******er is an awesome dog with an open fun loving spirit! His future family needs to be ready to help this former hunting dog polish up his pet dog skills so Wi******er can be the best hound boy he can be! He’s loving, playful, goofy and incredibly endearing. He just needs the right person who can give him structure, training, exercise and plenty of companionship.

🖤Today is National Black Dog Day! 🖤

Did you know black and brindle dogs are among the most commonly overlooked dogs in shelters and rescues? Today, we’re celebrating these beautiful, special pups and reminding everyone just how much love they have to give.

Give your black or brindle pup an extra hug today, then show them off in the comments! We want to see those beautiful faces.

And speaking of beautiful black dogs… meet two of our adorable available pups, Waffle and Gertie! These cropped-eared little potatoes are BOTH absolutely wonderful dogs with endless good qualities. They’re sweet, loving companions who would be thrilled to find a cozy couch, a devoted human, and a whole lot of belly rubs.

Black dogs deserve to be seen, loved, and chosen. 🖤

What a great opportunity to get some amazing photos of your best friend! 🐾

Another great weekend of outreach and a pretty darn tootin’ good glow-up for two very special dogs.

No more chains. No more unsafe living conditions. These two are now living in clean, safe, appropriate spaces where they can be comfortable and cared for.

They also got plenty of TLC, treats, fresh water, and full bellies, while their owners were provided with food, supplies, and the resources they need to keep things moving in the right direction.

This is what community outreach is about: showing up, getting our hands dirty, and making life better for dogs who need someone in their corner.

No judgment. No glory. Just people who give a damn about animals. 🖤

🧡Meet Penny!!!🧡
Approximately 1.5 years old, 40 lbs, and absolutely drop dead gorgeous. This sweet Catahoula mix is equal parts cuddle bug and adventure buddy. She’s crate trained, housebroken, great on leash, and ready to be someone’s one-and-only.

Beautiful, loving, and ready for her forever person. Could that be you?
