Here is your friendly reminder that Kentucky Fish and Wildlife will host four dove quota hunts and four traditional mentor/youth quota hunts, happening in early September, and the application period for those hunts ends this week!

All applications are due THIS Thursday (8/21) at 4:30 PM (ET).

We know… this month has flown by (pun intended). But don’t let this opportunity pass you by!

How many of you guys had your dad or mom take you squirrel hunting? Or how many of y’all have taken your children? Let’s see this pics?

There’s just something special about a dad taking his kids squirrel hunting. 🐿️

It’s never really just about the squirrels. It’s about waking up early, slipping through the woods before the sun is fully up, and learning to walk quietly beside Dad. It’s about sitting against an old tree, listening to the woods come alive, and hearing stories that somehow get better every time they’re told.

For a lot of dads, squirrel hunting is a tradition passed down from their own fathers. And now, they’re passing it on to their kids—not just teaching them how to hunt, but teaching patience, respect for the outdoors, responsibility, and an appreciation for the simple things.

One day, those kids may not remember every squirrel they saw. But they’ll remember walking through the woods with Dad. They’ll remember the sound of his voice, the lessons he taught, and the feeling of being right there beside him.

That’s the real harvest.

Take your kids hunting. Start the tradition. Someday, those memories will mean more than you ever realized. ❤️🌲🐿️

Great hunting experiences start with respect. Always ask for permission before accessing private land and build trust with property owners. Ethical hunting protects the tradition for all of us.
