As LEAP’s reach has grown, so has the community of people who have given their time, talents, and hearts to our missions.

Looking back at moments like this from one of our early missions to Belize in the 1990s reminds us just how many individuals have played a part in LEAP’s story over the years. We’re thankful for every person who has served alongside us and excited for each volunteer who will help carry this mission forward.

Behind every LEAP surgery is a team of highly trained medical professionals bringing specialized skills and years of experience to patients who may otherwise have limited access to this level of care.

Together, they work side by side in the operating room, combining their respective specialties while sharing knowledge with local medical teams along the way.

Meet Dr. Akiko Ando, an anesthesiologist whose dedication to LEAP has spanned 14 years and 20 missions.

Dr. Ando has given her time and expertise to serve LEAP patients, becoming an invaluable part of our team.

Our Zimbabwe team recently returned home! Bringing joy and healing to our patients is at the heart of every LEAP mission. In the relationships we form and the smiles we share, we see Christ’s love reflected in the lives we’re blessed to serve.

We also had the opportunity to share dinner with Pamela M. Tremont, U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Zimbabwe. It was an honor and privilege to meet her.

Thank you to Celebration Ministries, Sally Mugabe Central Hospital, and Shumiro Trust for the continued collaboration! We are deeply grateful to serve alongside you!

Medical care may bring LEAP teams across the world, but it’s the people they meet who make each mission meaningful.

Time with patients extends beyond surgeries. It means hearing stories and making memories with the children and families who welcome our teams into their communities.

As our team is in Zimbabwe, we’re grateful for the relationships formed alongside the care we’re there to provide.

For Mimi and Dr. Grant Gilliland, LEAP has long been more than an organization they support. Over decades of involvement, the Gillilands have traveled on LEAP missions together, sharing the relationships, service, and sense of purpose that have kept them dedicated to this work year after year.

That history makes their role as Event Chairs for LEAP’s 35th Anniversary Gala especially fitting. As we celebrate where LEAP has been and look toward what comes next, we’re grateful to have Mimi and Grant helping lead the Gala.
