Last but certainly not least, we honor our last of five Work Of Heart recipients at Bishop Lynch High School (Official)

This year, Pamela Malouf was recognized with a Work of Heart Award for her 4 years of service as the guidance counselor at Bishop Lynch.

Her impact extends far beyond day-to-day counseling. Families shared stories of her helping students apply for scholarships, alerting them of important opportunities for colleges, and spending extra time guiding parents through difficult or stressful situations.

“Pam has consistently demonstrated Christian values at Bishop Lynch. The ones that I have personally witnessed are love, compassion, faithfulness, generosity, and kindness,” a parent shared. “Her faithfulness in God and letting me know we were always in her prayers has been so comforting.”

At most Catholic schools, students are used to Theology classes teaching them about the Church. But in Natasha’s classroom, she saw an opportunity for students not just to learn about Church history but to live it.

This year, Natasha Pajda was recognized with a Work of Heart Award for 12+ years of service as the theology teacher at Bishop Lynch High School (Official).

“The attention and acknowledgement were not important to her, just the opportunity to do something memorable for our students,” shared a colleague. “Her willingness to work extra time to do something amazing and her refusal to seek acknowledgement for doing so are the two clearest examples of her exceeding any expectations that could be placed upon a teacher.”

Students know Patty Barton as the person who always shows up when they need her most.

She was recognized with a Work of Heart Award for her 23 years of service as the school nurse at Bishop Lynch High School (Official).

“I know that most nurses tend to be people who want to help others, or they wouldn't have chosen their profession,” says a parent. “However, I feel that Patty has gone above and beyond and has taken that oath of being a nurse to a whole new level.”

This year, Maritza was recognized with a Work Of Heart Award for her 25 years of service as the Coordinator of Student Formation and Mission Trip Coordinator at Bishop Lynch High School (Official).

Describing Maritza simply as an educator or staff member would be a disservice to the impact she’s made on the lives of students, faculty, and families. She has a spirit that can elevate the entire community, modeling Christian values through both her daily actions and relationships.

“She often notices the small but meaningful details,” shared one co-worker. “She sees who is sitting alone, who may seem unsure, who could benefit from encouragement, and she responds immediately with warmth and attentiveness.”

To kick things off in honoring our five Work of Heart Award recipients from Bishop Lynch High School (Official), we begin with Señora Doran Lopez for the lasting impact she has made on students during 20+ years as a Spanish teacher at Bishop Lynch.

The honor included a certificate to display and $1,000.

“She reminds me of my worth as a student at Bishop Lynch and as a child of God. She makes me feel valued and seen,” one student said. “As an educator, this is not her job. Her job is to teach. But by going above and beyond, she shows me how much she cares for me as a child of God and how she wants the absolute best for me.”

Like the foundation of a strong building, Steve Niles’ work can’t always be seen by the untrained eye, but it’s essential.

As Director of Facilities Operations at St. Rita Catholic School, he strengthens the St. Rita Catholic Church - Dallas school community from the ground up and always through the lens of faith.

“Through his hands, his heart, and his unwavering commitment to service, Steve is not only building structures, but he is building people, strengthening our community, and living out the very mission of our Catholic school each day,” says a co-worker.

Steve demonstrates outstanding service through a steadfast commitment to excellence in every aspect of campus life. From early mornings to late evenings, he ensures the school is safe, clean, and welcoming.

For his exemplary work, Steve received a Work Of Heart Award from The Catholic Foundation this month that included a certificate to display and $1,000.

As cafeteria manager at James L. Collins Catholic School in Corsicana for the past 35 years, Joyce Heard has earned a reputation for dishing out delicious meals like spaghetti and chicken and dumplings.

Beyond her excellent cooking, however, she’s regarded as one of the school’s greatest encouragers.

“She cheers on students in their activities, celebrates their accomplishments, and offers kind words when they need support,” says one co-worker. “She has a unique ability to make every child feel known and important.

“My own son talks often about how much he loves Mrs. Heard’s spaghetti meal, a simple but powerful example of how she creates comfort and joy through something as ordinary as a plate of food,” the colleague adds. “Her famous chicken and dumplings have become a staple of our community as well - so much so that visitors and parishioners will come to campus just to enjoy them.”

As she prepares to retire this year, Joyce consistently exceeds all expectations in her care for students, families, and staff. Her work goes far beyond preparing daily meals as she embodies the spirit of service and compassion that defines the school.

For her exemplary work that serves as a role model for others, Joyce received a Work Of Heart Award from The Catholic Foundation that includes a certificate to display and $1,000.
