In these difficult times for refugees, we're happy to share news of another vehicle gift from Rides for Refugees to a refugee family in the United States.

Ana and her son are refugees from Venezuela, resettled in Texas. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, Rides for Refugees recently provided Ana with a vehicle, so she will have safe and reliable transportation to work, the store, doctor visits, and activities.

For refugees such as Ana, who works full time, finding a stable job is sometimes not the end of their struggles. If the job is far away or there is no public transportation to reliably get them to work on time, life can be stressful and expenses can be steep and unpredictable.

As you may know, Rides for Refugees is an all-volunteer organization, wholly supported by donors. Ana has a special message for Rides for Refugees' supporters:

“My son and I want to express our gratitude to both the organization and the donors. May God truly multiply the blessings of this gesture and your help! Thank you for being angels on our path in this country.”

In these difficult times for refugees, Rides for Refugees is happy to share good news of another vehicle gift to a refugee family in the United States.

Ana and her son are refugees from Venezuela, resettled in Texas. Where she lives in Texas, and in much of the United States, there is no public transportation.

June 20 is World Refugee Day, the international day honoring people who have been forced to flee. The day asks us to recommit to helping them find safety and social and economic inclusion.

Rides for Refugees is the only national nonprofit focused on providing vehicles to low-income, legal refugees in the United States. By providing a vehicle, we give them opportunity--to work, live with dignity, and thrive.

We are pleased to share news of another life-changing vehicle gift, thanks to the support of our kind donors.

S. is a refugee resettled with her husband and three children in Pennsylvania. She is a talented pastry chef, and the vehicle she got with the help of Rides for Refugees will enable her to take a full-time job at a bakery and also start a catering business on the side. She already has orders coming in!

In her native Afghanistan, S. taught girls in primary and middle school--until the Taliban assumed control and prevented girls from attending school. Her husband, R., a humanitarian program officer, trained police in human rights and assisted women escaping domestic violence.

The couple's jobs and ethnicity made them a target of the Taliban. They made a harrowing escape from Afghanistan--but not before R's brother was captured and killed by the Taliban while trying to protect the family's property and finances. The family lived in refugee camps in three countries before being admitted to the United States.

Now, with the help of Rides for Refugees, S. and R. are able to envision a brighter future for their family after so much loss and trauma.

Aside from the joy of helping refugees live better lives, one of the best things about our work is meeting all the other people who care about supporting refugees and immigrants.

A Green Card is no guarantee of financial stability for refugees in the United States. Because of a widespread lack of transportation, even legal-permanent-resident refugees with ample work qualifications may have trouble finding jobs and getting to work.

That's where Rides for Refugees comes in: We get low-income, legal-permanent-resident refugees the vehicles they need to get to work and become self-reliant. This helps refugee families and strengthens U.S. communities. And we're the only nonprofit addressing the transportation gap for refugees nation-wide.
