One of the things we believe deeply is that community care should be rooted in dignity, generosity, and mutual aid. Sometimes helping a family means connecting them with resources. Sometimes it means sharing what we have. And sometimes it simply means asking our community, “Who has something they could pass along?”

We recently connected with a single mom whose kids have grown a LOT since the school year ended, especially her 16- and 11-year-old boys. We would love to help her get them ready for the new school year through new or gently used clothing and shoes.

Here’s what the family is looking for:
17-year-old boy
• Men’s size 9 shoes
• Men’s medium shirts
• Pants: 28–34 waist

16-year-old boy
• Men’s size 10 shoes
• 3XL shirts
• 3XL joggers
• Pants: 44x32

11-year-old boy
• Men’s size 8.5 shoes
• Men’s large shirts
• Medium joggers/sweats
• He prefers joggers/sweats rather than blue jeans

7-year-old girl
• Girls’ 7/8 shirts
• Girls’ 7/8 pants
• Size 12 shoes

If you have clothing or shoes your kids have outgrown and you’ve been wondering what to do with them, this could be a wonderful opportunity to pass them forward.

We’ve been packing backpacks! 🎒

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, we've now packed over 50 backpacks for local students, and we couldn't be more grateful. Every donation has helped make this possible.

We've enjoyed shopping for backpacks that fit the needs, interests, and personalities of the students on our list. It has been amazing to receive support from across South Dakota and even from out of state.

Backpack requests are now officially closed as we focus on completing and distributing the backpacks already requested. We are so thankful for the overwhelming response and the opportunity to help so many local students start the school year with the supplies they need.

Thank you to everyone who donated, shared our posts, or supported this project in any way. Your generosity is making a real difference for children and families in our community. ❤️

Thank you KOTA Territory News for the feature about this beautiful memorial scholarship that is open through September 1st.

The Spencer Coy Sandven Memorial Perseverance Scholarship will award $500 annually to a student who has demonstrated resilience while pursuing a nontraditional educational pathway, including homeschooling, alternative or online high schools, GED programs, credit recovery and workforce development programs.

Spencer’s family said the scholarship is intended to encourage students whose educational journeys may look different from a traditional path.

“Success is found in resilience, in refusing to give up, and in believing in yourself even when the road is difficult,” the family said.

The Go Far Foundation established the Spencer Coy Sandven Memorial Perseverance Scholarship, awarding $500 annually to nontraditional students.

We're so excited to see our first school supply donations starting to come in!

A huge thank you to my amazing mother-in-law, who, along with our nieces, hand-made pencil pouches and filled them with school supplies for the kids we'll be serving. It means so much to see our community come together in such thoughtful ways. 🫶🏼

Right now, we've reached capacity with 50 children signed up to receive backpacks and school supplies. If we'd like to help even more families, we need more donations!

The Spencer Coy Sandven Memorial Perseverance Scholarship is now accepting applications, and we hope you'll help us reach the students who need to see it.

This annual $500 scholarship, created through the Go Far Foundation in memory of Spencer Coy Sandven (August 31, 2004 – February 7, 2026), honors students who have shown incredible perseverance while pursuing a nontraditional educational path.

Whether they're learning through homeschool, an alternative school, online education, GED programs, workforce development, credit recovery, Penn Foster, or another nontraditional pathway, this scholarship recognizes that determination, resilience, and grit matter.

Every student's journey is different. Some roads are harder than others. This scholarship exists to remind students that their path does not define their potential and that perseverance deserves to be celebrated.

Wow! We are absolutely humbled by the incredible response to our Go Far Foundation Backpack & School Supplies Drive! ❤️

As of 11:26 a.m. on Sunday, July 26, all of our current backpack sponsorship spots have been filled!

We are now working one-on-one with each family to gather their students' information and school supply needs.

At this time, we do not have any additional spots available unless we receive more donations of backpacks, school supplies, monetary gifts, or sponsors for additional children.

If you'd still like to help, your generosity can allow us to open more spots and provide backpacks and school supplies to even more local students.

We will keep everyone updated if additional sponsorship opportunities become available.
