A child's imagination deserves every opportunity to thrive. 🙌🏽

Our warehouse team distributed 26 pallets of brand-new items received through Marine Toys for Tots Foundation to Sioux reservation communities. These packages include:

📚 Scholastic books and educational reading sets
⚽ Soccer balls and basketballs
🎨 Play-Doh and Peppa Pig chalk activity sets
🧸 Stuffed animals and mini board game sets

How did Plains nations keep centuries of history alive long before printed books? 🤔💭

Through the Waníyetu Wówapi, traditionally known as a Winter Count. Each year, a designated tribal keeper met with elders to choose the single defining event of that winter cycle. Painting this pictograph onto a hide created an unbroken chronological record of community milestones, natural events, and survival across generations. Recognizing these sophisticated record-keeping traditions honors the living history and resilience of Lakota, Dakota, and Nakota nations.

In suburban towns, running out of groceries means a 5-minute trip down the road. Across the vast expanses of the Great Plains, geography creates a very different reality.

Families living on reservations like Pine Ridge, Rosebud, and Cheyenne River often reside 40 to 60 miles away from the nearest full-service grocery store. Severe road conditions, limited vehicle access, and high fuel costs make food security an immediate logistical hurdle. 😔

You may be familiar with the Lakota phrase Mitákuye Oyásʼiŋ. While frequently translated into English as "all my relations" or "we are all related," its true significance extends far beyond a basic translation.

This phrase reflects an ancient worldview rooted in the deep kinship between humanity, the land, the waters, and all living things. Within Lakota culture, community strength and survival rest on shared responsibility and seeing extended family in every neighbor. Recognizing this sacred philosophy allows us to stand alongside Lakota, Dakota, and Nakota nations in genuine solidarity.
