Today on Clinical Trials Day, we recognize the patients, researchers, and healthcare teams who are helping advance the future of lung cancer treatment.

Clinical trials play a critical role in improving prevention, detection, and treatment options—and today’s standard treatments exist because patients chose to participate in research studies.

To help patients and families take the next step, our website also includes a clinical trial search tool to explore available studies.

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with lung cancer, talk with your care team about whether a clinical trial may be right for you.

At 49, a routine scan changed everything. Less than 7 months after lung cancer surgery, Zhanna ran her first 5K—and placed second in her age group. Her story is one of resilience, recovery, and refusing to give up. Read her inspiring journey at the link in our bio or visit https://bit.ly/ZhannasStory

Last Thursday, we gathered at the Washington Duke Inn and Golf Club for an evening of education, connection, and hope at our Understanding Your Lung Cancer Diagnosis community event. Attendees heard the latest updates in small cell and non-small cell lung cancer, an inspiring survivor story from Joy Henderson, and took part in an engaging and informative Q&A panel discussion.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible speakers from Duke Cancer Institute — Drs. Alder, Ready, and Bevers — for sharing their expertise and compassion, and to Joy for courageously sharing her journey and reminding us all of the power of hope and resilience.

We are grateful to everyone who joined us for this meaningful evening of learning and support. If you missed it, replays of the talks will be available on our YouTube channel soon. Together, we continue moving forward with knowledge, community, and hope.

This Women’s Health Month, we’re raising awareness—and encouraging open conversations—about the impact of lung cancer on women.

Women account for 52% of new lung cancer diagnoses, and it remains the leading cause of cancer death among women. But there is hope: when lung cancer is found early through screening, outcomes can improve significantly.

Yet too many people are missing that opportunity. Screening rates remain low (18.2% nationally; 19.2% in North Carolina among those eligible).

Talking about lung cancer risk, asking questions, and understanding your screening options can make a difference.

Start the conversation with your healthcare provider, or learn more at lungcancerinitiative.org.

After losing his mom to lung cancer, chose to honor her by bringing people together. What started as a simple idea—a local 5K—grew into a movement of friends, family, and community… raising nearly $20,000 in her memory.

But what stayed with us most wasn’t just the impact—it was how he started: one small step. One conversation. One act of kindness.

That’s how change begins.

Thank you, , for sharing your story and inspiring others to take action and create hope.
