NC Farm Bureau Women's Leadership Program Elevate and empower women to be leaders and advocates for agriculture

The purpose of the NC Farm Bureau Women's Program is to promote agriculture and support Farm Bureau’s policies and initiatives through legislative involvement, educational programs, and safety activities. PROMOTING VOLUNTEERISM LOCALLY AND NATIONALLY
• Educate the community about agriculture and where their food comes from
• Support charities and nonprofits that are important to you
• Learn to embrace your contribution to agriculture
• Inspire others by telling your agriculture story

ENHANCE UNDERSTANDING OF AGRICULTURE
• Host and participate in peer-to-peer farm tours
• Learn by networking with others in different agriculture industries
• Opportunities to connect with every segment of agriculture
• Learn why NC is the third most diverse agriculture state

ENACTING CHANGE BY SUPPORTING PUBLIC POLICY INITIATIVES
• Opportunity to serve in positions that make a difference in policy initiatives
• Represent agriculture and rural communities in public hearings and forums
• Initiate and build relationships with elected officials
• Make a difference by telling your agriculture story

TRAINING FOR EFFECTIVE COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION

On September 18, Jackson County Farm Bureau’s Women’s Leadership Committee kicked off its monthly Ag in the Classroom reading program at Scott’s Creek Elementary School. We read The Tree Farmer to Katie Swartzwelder’s third-grade class. The students enjoyed learning about tree farming and enthusiastically asked questions during the discussion.
This year, the committee looks forward to sharing the importance of agriculture with students by reading Ag in the Classroom books monthly at three different elementary schools.

We started out bright and early Tuesday morning with a special tour of the Hampton Farms Peanut Plant in Severn, NC! 🥜

What an interesting operation to see firsthand! We learned more about what happens to peanuts after they leave the farm and got a behind-the-scenes look at the process.

A lot of what we saw is proprietary information, so no pictures from this stop! 📵 You’ll just have to take our word for it—it was a great tour and another wonderful opportunity to learn more about North Carolina agriculture! 🥜🌱

Weldon Mills Distillery was our last stop of the day, and what a great way to end a jam-packed day!

We enjoyed a wonderful tour of the distillery and learned about the process of making bourbon—from start to finish. Of course, we couldn’t learn about bourbon without a little taste testing! 🥃

We were also treated to specialty cocktails / mocktails made just for our group and finished the evening with a delicious catered dinner.

A great ending to a full day of learning, agriculture, fellowship and fun with the NCFB State Women’s Leadership Committee!

Our Monday afternoon took us to Gaston Cooperative Cotton Gin!

Although the gin wasn’t running during our visit, we still received a great tour and learned all about the process cotton goes through once it arrives at the gin. It was very interesting to see the equipment up close and learn more about this important step in getting cotton from the field to the products we use every day.

Another great stop filled with agriculture and learning!
