Rise Against Hunger

Rise Against Hunger Stop Hunger Now rebranded to become Rise Against Hunger in 2017 and still remains driven by Ray’s vision of a world without hunger.

We help underserved people worldwide achieve food security and resilience through nutrition, education and economic empowerment, fueled by a global movement of volunteers and partners. In 1998, envisioning a world without hunger, Ray Buchanan — a United Methodist minister — founded Stop Hunger Now with the goal of providing food and other assistance to people facing hunger around the world. g Rise Against Hunger’s work is the recognition that ending hunger is more than just feeding people. Through our Pathways to End Hunger, we focus on both providing immediate nourishment for those in need today and implementing sustainable solutions that will lift entire communities for years to come. Our Empowering Communities pathway promotes improvements in agricultural production and rural livelihoods to help individuals increase their incomes and access to food. While long-term food security takes root, our Nourishing Lives pathway provides nutrition through safety net programs and encourages education, vocational training and health services that support the difficult journey out of poverty. From droughts to floods, in conflict zones and political crises, everyday access to food, wages and market systems can be destroyed in the wake of emergencies. The Responding to Emergencies pathway deploys food and other assistance in communities when it is needed most. Rise Against Hunger recognizes that hunger will not end without the fourth pathway of Growing a Global Movement by engaging hundreds of thousands of volunteers and advocates each year through our meal packaging program, virtual engagement opportunities and other initiatives. These Hunger Champions build awareness and activation surrounding the importance of ending world hunger.

This summer, we’re bringing you closer to the impact.

Members of our team are traveling to visit communities we serve around the world. And along the way, they’ll be sharing real stories and firsthand accounts from the field!

Our first update comes from Director of Meal Packaging Laura Rodriguez with a tour of an early childhood development center supported by Rise Against Hunger in South Africa.

Today, on Day of the African Child, we honor the resilience, potential and dreams of children like Victory across Africa and around the world.

Victory is a 9-year-old student in northwest Cameroon, where Rise Against Hunger partners with Community Vision Group to support school feeding and local agriculture initiatives. Before the program, Victory often left school during breaks because she was hungry. Today, she attends school more regularly, stays energized throughout the day and is excited to learn.

Access to nutritious meals and education can help create brighter futures for children, families and entire communities. Through locally led partnerships, Rise Against Hunger supports programs that strengthen food security, improve school attendance and build long-term resilience.

Today and every day, we remain committed to walking alongside communities working toward a stronger future for every child.

Some of the most meaningful moments happen when people come together around a shared purpose.

This summer, we’re reflecting on the partners, volunteers, donors and team members who continue to show up for communities around the world through Rise Against Hunger.

From packaging meals to funding long-term food security initiatives, corporate partners like Schreiber Foods and employee donors like Alzina Brown are helping create impact that extends far beyond a single event.

Together, we’re helping nourish lives, strengthen communities and support brighter futures around the world.

We’re deeply grateful for everyone who continues to be part of this movement.

𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗥𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗬 𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗡𝗦𝗘 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘: On Monday, June 8, a destructive 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit off the shore of Mindanao, the second most-populated island in the Philippines. It damaged structures, left over 30 people dead and injured hundreds.

In the aftermath of this disaster, there is a critical need for basic necessities, including food. Rise Against Hunger’s emergency response team has jumped into action to support families affected.

Working alongside our in-country partner, we have allocated two containers of Rise Against Hunger meals — totaling 570,240 — to meet urgent needs. Our Global Member location, Rise Against Hunger Philippines, is also working with local partners to provide urgent support, including shelter, food, clean water and hygiene supplies.

Rise Against Hunger is committed to assisting these communities as they work to recover and rebuild, and we will remain in close communication with on-the-ground partners to determine if we can provide further aid in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for additional updates as our response efforts continue.

Taking action to end world hunger took center court in Georgia last weekend. 🏓

We hosted our fourth annual charity pickleball tournament — and Georgia’s largest charity tournament — on June 6 in partnership with Life Time Peachtree Corners.

Lots of Hunger Champions joined us to “serve” (not just pay) it forward. The tournament raised enough to provide hundreds of kids with meals for an entire school year!

Want to be part of the movement to end hunger, too? Check out ways you can help: https://hubs.li/Q04k_dDC0

Ending hunger takes more than one solution. It requires a layered approach rooted in partnership, resilience and long-term impact.

1️⃣ Meet Immediate Nutritional Needs Through Meal Packaging Events.
Every Rise Against Hunger meal packaging event helps provide nutritious, volunteer-packaged meals for communities facing food insecurity around the world.

2️⃣ Support Education and Opportunity for Children.
When children are fed through school feeding programs, attendance improves and learning takes root. To further support the next generation’s bright futures, Rise Against Hunger works to strengthen school infrastructure and promote hygiene.

3️⃣ Foster Economic Empowerment for Families and Farmers.
Through sustainable agriculture and income-generating projects, we help farmers increase household incomes and strengthen local food systems — because economic stability is essential to ending hunger.

A safe kitchen, clean water and reliable access to school meals.

These are the kinds of projects supporters like you have helped make possible in communities around the world. From Kenya to Haiti, Honduras to Tanzania, investments in school infrastructure help create healthier environments where students can learn, grow and thrive.

Now, we're working to fund the next project.

Across the communities we serve, there are schools waiting for resources that can make a meaningful difference:
🍲 Safe kitchen spaces for meal preparation
💧 Clean water access for students and staff
🌱 School improvements that support long-term food security and resilience

We're working toward our goal of raising $10,000 to bring the next project to life.

“In 2025, I traveled to Malawi as part of the Harvesting Prosperity and Resilience project, and it remains one of those visits that fundamentally reshaped how I think about impact.”

Before ever launching a sustainable development project, our Global Impact team spends considerable time collaborating with the community the project seeks to serve. This ensures the work is done hand-in-hand with community members, designed to meet their unique needs. During a recent visit to Malawi, Senior Programs Manager Charlotte Navarro saw firsthand how community involvement and ownership can create real, lasting resilience.
