Rise Against Hunger

Rise Against Hunger Stop Hunger Now rebranded to become Rise Against Hunger in 2017 and still remains driven by Ray’s vision of a world without hunger.

We help underserved people worldwide achieve food security and resilience through nutrition, education and economic empowerment, fueled by a global movement of volunteers and partners. In 1998, envisioning a world without hunger, Ray Buchanan — a United Methodist minister — founded Stop Hunger Now with the goal of providing food and other assistance to people facing hunger around the world. g Rise Against Hunger’s work is the recognition that ending hunger is more than just feeding people. Through our Pathways to End Hunger, we focus on both providing immediate nourishment for those in need today and implementing sustainable solutions that will lift entire communities for years to come. Our Empowering Communities pathway promotes improvements in agricultural production and rural livelihoods to help individuals increase their incomes and access to food. While long-term food security takes root, our Nourishing Lives pathway provides nutrition through safety net programs and encourages education, vocational training and health services that support the difficult journey out of poverty. From droughts to floods, in conflict zones and political crises, everyday access to food, wages and market systems can be destroyed in the wake of emergencies. The Responding to Emergencies pathway deploys food and other assistance in communities when it is needed most. Rise Against Hunger recognizes that hunger will not end without the fourth pathway of Growing a Global Movement by engaging hundreds of thousands of volunteers and advocates each year through our meal packaging program, virtual engagement opportunities and other initiatives. These Hunger Champions build awareness and activation surrounding the importance of ending world hunger.

Meaningful change doesn't happen overnight.

It grows through partnerships that are nurtured over time, communities that continue investing in one another and people who choose to take action — one meal, one volunteer shift and one act of generosity at a time.

Over the coming weeks, we'll be sharing stories that highlight what's possible when communities lead, partners collaborate and supporters like you make this work possible.

We're excited to bring you along. Stay tuned.

Want to know why Rise Against Hunger invests in staff vision trips? ⬇️

Our Global Impact team frequently meets with our in-country partners and visits our global programs to ensure our work is as effective as it can be. But staff in other departments, like finance and HR, don’t get to see the on-the-ground impact as regularly, even though their day-to-day work plays a pivotal role.

There’s nothing like seeing the impact firsthand — watching children learn in a school that serves Rise Against Hunger meals, touring a garden that is abundant after implementing climate-smart techniques or meeting a parent working hard to provide for their family.

We invest in vision trips to ensure all of our staff understand the full scale of our work and their part in it. Our impact isn’t possible without our amazing employees, and we’re so grateful for them. ❤️

Earlier this month, 14 members of the Rise Against Hunger team traveled to Honduras for a staff vision trip.

The team spent time with our partner Volunteers for Honduran Communities, visiting schools that we support and meeting with students and school leaders.

The trip wasn’t about checking a box or taking photos. It was an opportunity for our employees to witness the impact they’re helping to make through their day-to-day work, directly meet people we serve and strengthen relationships with our on-the-ground partner.

The staff members returned with a deeper understanding of the challenges communities face — and the resilience, innovation and leadership driving solutions. It’s a level of understanding they’ll carry into their work moving forward.

Check out the video to see moments from the trip!

16 years of Dunwoody United Methodist Church’s partnership with Rise Against Hunger has nourished families worldwide with 5 million meals!

The church hosts an annual “Foodstock,” bringing together its community to tackle global food insecurity. Every year is impactful, but last weekend’s Foodstock was particularly special — with 1,000+ volunteers packaging 285,000 meals, Dunwoody UMC reached 5 million meals packaged since 2010!

This milestone is about more than meals. It shows what happens when a community comes together to fuel lasting change. The meals packaged by Dunwoody UMC are distributed by Rise Against Hunger’s trusted in-country partners to provide nutritious food to people facing hunger, while our broader programs support sustainable agriculture, income generation and resilient communities.

Thank you, Dunwoody UMC, for 16 years of turning compassion into action!

Our longstanding corporate collaborator FedEx recently teamed up with Rise Against Hunger to honor the legacy of the company’s founder Frederick W. Smith and the culture he modeled of giving back through service.

During the inaugural FWS Day of Service, more than 3,600 FedEx team members participated in 120+ volunteer events with multiple nonprofit organizations, contributing approximately 9,570 hours toward making a difference!

As part of the global effort, FedEx teams across Asia-Pacific, Europe and the United States partnered with Rise Against Hunger to package nutritious meals that will help nourish underserved communities around the world.

Thank you, FedEx, for honoring a legacy of service by putting generosity into action and growing our global movement to end hunger!

Statistics tell us where hunger exists, but they don't tell the whole story.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)’s latest report on global food security dropped a few weeks ago and stated that 645 million people worldwide are currently facing hunger. Behind every digit of that number is a real person. A parent trying to provide for their family, a student working to stay focused in school or a farmer growing crops to earn an income.

That's why Rise Against Hunger's work to end hunger goes beyond providing meals. We partner with local organizations to support school feeding programs, strengthen food systems and invest in solutions that foster a community’s resilience and self-sufficiency.

The FAO’s new report reinforces something we see every day: ending hunger requires long-term collaboration, local leadership and consistent investment in communities.

The challenges are real, but so is the progress that's possible when people work together.

𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗥𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗬 𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗡𝗦𝗘 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘: On Monday, a 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia. It is one of the country’s deadliest earthquakes in decades, with news reporting 281 people are confirmed dead, hundreds remain missing and many are displaced with 12,000 homes destroyed.

Basic supplies are urgently needed, and Rise Against Hunger is mobilizing to respond. Working with World Vision and our gift-in-kind partners, we are preparing shipments of over-the-counter medicine and hygiene supplies for distribution to 30,000 people in need.

We are committed to supporting the communities affected for the long haul. We are in close communication with on-the-ground partners and Colombia’s Minister of Health to determine further aid that we can provide in the coming weeks as recovery efforts continue.

We are currently responding to crises in Colombia, Venezuela and other countries across the globe — and we need your help! Support our worldwide crisis relief efforts by donating to Rise Against Hunger’s Global Emergency Relief Fund: https://hubs.li/Q04t6kg80

Each shipping container that leaves our warehouses represents something more than boxes of meals. It represents nourishment, hope and resilience.

In July, thanks to the dedication of volunteers like you, Rise Against Hunger shipped 11 containers carrying more than 3.1 million meals to communities where they are needed most.

📦 3 containers of meals to Convoy of Hope in the Philippines
📦 2 containers to Children of Vietnam in Vietnam
📦 2 containers to Rise Against Hunger Africa in South Africa
📦 1 container to Salesian Missions in South Sudan
📦 1 container to International Care Ministries in the Philippines
📦 1 container to Salesian Missions in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
📦 1 container of emergency response meals to World Vision in Venezuela

Our in-country partners will distribute these meals to families facing hunger, helping to improve nutrition, expand educational opportunities and strengthen food security.

While each shipment marks an important milestone, it's also one step in a much larger journey. Behind every container are thousands of people who chose to give their time, resources and compassion to help build a world without hunger. Thank you for helping move this work forward. ❤️

As students head back to school, many families are thinking about backpacks, school supplies and new routines.

But one of the most important ingredients for learning is something every child deserves: consistent access to nutritious food.

When students have the nourishment they need, they're better able to focus in class, participate in learning and build healthy habits that support their future. That's one reason school feeding programs are such an important part of creating stronger communities — and it’s why supporting these programs is a major part of our work.

Education and nutrition go hand in hand. When children have both, they have a stronger foundation to learn, grow and thrive.

Your support helps us reach as many students as possible, equipping them with the meals, supplies and support they need to succeed.

Help send kids back to school! Give today: https://hubs.li/Q04srp3P0
