We would like to express our gratitude to the Meritage Cares Foundation for their generous donation of $2,500 to the Cooper Foundation. With our average grant of $2,500, this will enable us to house at least one family, providing them with stability and safety.

Since it was founded in 2024 by Meritage Homes, their Foundation has donated more than $4 million to charities in the communities where their leaders and employees live and work. In addition, they have donated thousands of volunteer hours, demonstrating their commitment and legacy of caring.

Thank you to the Meritage Homes Raleigh office and Meritage Cares for entrusting the Cooper Foundation and collaborating with us to provide housing stability grants to people in need. It is greatly appreciated.

Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday for the Give Raleigh Celebration and helped make the evening so special.

We’re grateful to Birdie’s Barroom & Kitchen for welcoming us, Raleigh Magazine for bringing the community together and Pinnacle Financial Partners for their continued support.

What if the most important legacy we leave is simply how we made someone feel safe? For our founder John Cooper, that person was his grandmother, Mozelle.

She didn't have great wealth. She lived on Social Security. She grew vegetables in her garden and shared them with others. She made cakes for friends and neighbors. Her door was always open to people who needed somewhere to go.

And during a childhood that could often feel frightening and uncertain, she gave John something even more important: Safety.

Years later, John created the Cooper Charitable Foundation in her honor because he wanted the way she lived to continue.

In his newly released TEDxRaleigh talk, The Kindness We Pass On, John shares Mozelle's story and something he has come to understand more deeply: The Foundation itself isn't Mozelle's legacy. Her legacy lives every time the kindness she gave one child is passed from that child to someone else.

Today, we're proud to share the story behind why we exist.
