Today we join the nation in celebrating Wor. Bro. Washington's Birthday, the national holiday honoring our Worshipful Brother George Washington.

Wor. Bro. Washington came to Federal Lodge on September 18, 1793, the day we hosted the Grand Lodge of Maryland for the ceremonies surrounding the Masonic laying of the cornerstone of the United States Capitol.

We might also note that, while many people commonly refer to the third Monday of February as "Presidents' Day," legally it remains Washington's Birthday, even after the Uniform Monday Holiday Act became law in 1968 and moved the national observance from February 22.

As Hurricane Erin draws near, let us be mindful of our sacred duty to one another. Brothers, remember the words of Scripture, that we are our brother’s keeper. Reach out in charity and love, for a simple call or kind word may be as a shelter in the storm.

May our fraternal bond stand firmer than the winds that rage and stronger than the waters that rise. Be steadfast, be safe, and let Brotherly Love prevail, now and always.
