APOYO Y COMUNIDAD 🤍

El Poder de Decidir participó en la charla “Viviendo con el Autismo” junto a la Dra. Verónica Torrico, creando un espacio de aprendizaje, apoyo y conversación para familias con niños dentro del espectro autista.

Durante este encuentro, se habló sobre la importancia de buscar recursos, hacer preguntas, abogar por nuestros hijos y reconocer que cada niño es único.

Gracias a todas las familias que participaron y continúan construyendo una comunidad más inclusiva, informada y llena de apoyo.

En el Mes de la Concientización y Aceptación del Autismo, seguimos promoviendo espacios de educación y acompañamiento para nuestra comunidad.

El Poder de Decidir participated in “Living with Autism” alongside Dr. Verónica Torrico, creating a space for learning, support, and conversation for families with children on the autism spectrum.

During this gathering, families discussed the importance of seeking resources, asking questions, advocating for their children, and recognizing that every child is unique.

Thank you to all the families who participated and continue helping build a more inclusive, informed, and supportive community.

DOS EVENTOS. UNA MISMA MISIÓN.

We participated in two recent community events where we shared information about Step Out, a program inviting pregnant Latinas in New York to be part of a research study focused on preventing childhood obesity starting from pregnancy.

Participation is completely voluntary. Our role is to provide information and support through educational spaces and monthly gatherings for the community.

This research has been ongoing for over 4 years, and we continue connecting with families to make sure they have access to resources and can make informed decisions.

Participamos en dos eventos comunitarios recientes donde compartimos información sobre Step Out, un programa que invita a mujeres embarazadas hispanas en Nueva York a participar en una investigación enfocada en prevenir la obesidad infantil desde el embarazo.

La participación es completamente voluntaria. Nuestro rol es brindar información y acompañamiento a través de espacios educativos y encuentros mensuales para la comunidad.

Esta investigación lleva más de 4 años, y seguimos conectando con familias para que tengan acceso a recursos y puedan tomar decisiones informadas.

Desde 2022, El Poder de Decidir colabora con un grupo de investigación de Northwell Health a través del programa STEP OUT, enfocado en la prevención de la obesidad infantil en la comunidad hispana desde el embarazo.

El programa invita a mamás embarazadas entre 24 y 32 semanas a participar en un programa virtual que ofrece educación y acompañamiento de un equipo de nutricionistas y médicos, durante el embarazo y después del parto.



Since 2022, El Poder de Decidir has collaborated with a Northwell Health research team through the STEP OUT program, focused on preventing childhood obesity in the Hispanic community starting during pregnancy.

The program invites pregnant mothers between 24 and 32 weeks to join a virtual program that provides education and support from nutritionists and primary care doctors during pregnancy and after birth.

Recuento 2025

Durante el segundo semestre de 2025, El Poder de Decidir, en colaboración con el programa de investigación Step Out, apoyó una serie de actividades comunitarias enfocadas en la alimentación saludable y la prevención de la obesidad infantil.

Estuvimos presentes en el Queens Museum (octubre y diciembre) y en Langston Hughes Community Library (noviembre), ofreciendo talleres con una nutricionista en español y creando espacios educativos dirigidos a mamás, adultos mayores y miembros de la comunidad interesados en fortalecer su bienestar.

Además de los talleres, compartimos sándwiches, refrigerios y tarjetas de regalo como parte de nuestro compromiso de apoyo integral a la comunidad.

Agradecemos la colaboración de ECRC , Familias Unidas .ny , Queens Museum y Uniting Generations por hacer posibles estos encuentros.

2025 Recap

During the second semester of 2025, El Poder de Decidir, in collaboration with the Step Out research program, supported a series of community initiatives focused on healthy nutrition and childhood obesity prevention.

Activities took place at Queens Museum (October and December) and at Langston Hughes Community Library (November), where we offered workshops led by a Spanish speaking nutritionist, creating educational spaces for mothers, older adults, and community members interested in improving their well being.

In addition to the workshops, we provided sandwiches, refreshments, and gift cards as part of our commitment to holistic community support.

We are grateful for the collaboration of ECRC , Familias Unidas .ny, Queens Museum , and Uniting Generations in making these initiatives possible.

🌕 It’s Almost Time for the March 3, 2026 Blood Moon!

On March 3, 2026, the Moon will drift into the deepest part of Earth’s shadow, transforming into a glowing red sphere in the night sky. This total lunar eclipse happens when the Sun, Earth, and Moon line up perfectly, and Earth’s atmosphere bends sunlight onto the Moon — filtering out blues and leaving behind rich crimson and copper shades.

For nearly an hour, the Moon will be fully covered in Earth’s umbra, creating that dramatic “Blood Moon” glow skywatchers love. The color can range from deep red to rusty orange, depending on atmospheric conditions at the time.
