Zion's Mission Animal Rescue

Zion's Mission Animal Rescue Rewriting their future, one dog at a time. Zion’s Mission Animal Rescue is a NYC (Rockaway Park) based 501(c)(3) non-profit animal rescue, specializing in dogs.

Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, train, and find loving homes for as many abused, abandoned, neglected and unwanted animals as possible. We are further dedicated to providing hospice care to those most vulnerable, our beloved seniors, and those who are terminally ill. Additionally, we work within our community to promote responsible pet ownership. Our rescue is comprised of a small group of

extremely dedicated volunteers. We rely solely on life-saving donations from our generous supporters to complete a rescue from start to finish. At this time, we do not have a physical location so the number of animals we save is directly related to the number of foster homes we have available to us.

This is beyond a tragedy. I remember going to the Bronx Zoo many times as a kid during class trips and looking at Happy, though at the time, I did not know her name. In my adulthood, I learned the truth about many of the animals that are held captive in a zoo and why sanctuaries are so important.

Happy was captured from the wild as a calf in the 1970s, and brought to the Bronx Zoo. After her companion Grumpy was killed by fellow elephants Patty and Maxine in 2002, Happy lived in complete solitary isolation for over two decades. She never returned to the wild. She never got the chance to live peacefully in a sanctuary though many animal advocates fought for her. Fly high Happy, you didn't deserve this at all 💔

On this , we remember Bella, formerly known as Betty ❤️

Bella/ Betty was named after none other than fierce animal advocate Betty White. Since we finalized her placement with us on what would have been Betty White's 100th birthday, we thought this was a perfect tribute. This precious sweetheart was brought into an ER hospital by the NYPD after she was believed to be hit by a car. Shortly after we were called to help by our friends at ACC.

Thankfully, an incredibly special medical foster answered our plea and had stepped up to help Bella / Betty recover after orthopedic surgery to fix her broken leg. The recovery was long for her since her leg was fractured in multiple areas, parts of the bone even shattered, which required plates and multiple screws.

Bella / Betty was adopted to an amazing family who fell in love with her shortly after her surgery. They loved her energy, and she helped heal their hearts after they suffered a loss. As we say in rescue, "who rescued who" is a strong sentiment and Bella/Betty's story shows that ❤️

We all feel like when we see an adoptable rescue dog. And if you don't, maybe you need a little attitude adjustment 😉

Sanji is available for adoption in the tri-state area or North Carolina, where he is bunking with our trainer and dear friend Jeff. Sanji is super smart, goofy, dog friendly, medium energy and less than 50 lbs. He was an emotional support dog with his previous owner, who had to surrender him back due to housing issues.

Magnolia has a ritual of taking her blankets off her bed and snuggles with it on the floor. We tell her it's more comfortable on the bed but she refuses to listen 🤷🏻‍♀️

We are so thrilled and honored to announce that this year's Rockaway Dog Parade will benefit our rescue!

The 5th Annual Rockaway Dog Parade is a fun-filled community celebration for dogs, families, and animal lovers of all ages! This year’s exciting theme is “Under the Sea,” so get ready to see pups dressed as mermaids, sailors, sea creatures, and more as they strut their stuff along the beach in the most adorable costume parade in Queens.

The event takes place on Saturday, October 3rd, 2026 from 12PM–2PM at the 94th Street Amphitheater in Rockaway Beach, Queens, NY.

Bring your friends, family, and furry companions for an unforgettable day celebrating our four-legged friends by the beach. Well-behaved dogs on leash are welcome. We're even going to bring some adoptables 🐾 so maybe you'll meet your future companion!

Location:
94th Street Amphitheater

Meech just had his own spa day at home ✨ this spoiled boy had his own groomer come to his foster parent's home to pamper him and make him look even more adorable (if that's possible!). Through the whole spa experience, he was loving on the groomer like the charmer he is ❤️

We're shocked that no one has applied again since his potential adopter ghosted him a while back. He's less thnan 10 lbs, the perfect lap dog, dog friendly (big and small breeds), a snuggler and playful boy. He is currently in foster in Long Island, NY.

Apply to adopt Meech today if you live in the tri-state area 🐾
