OpenDoors's She Thrives program is featured in this new podcast episode about the potential for GLP-1 treatment to reduce addiction and possibly even criminal activity. The graduates of our program have accomplished so much and have been incredibly brave telling their stories. We hope their strength will help inspire others to continue to invest in this promising effort!

OpenDoors is very happy to announce that our shelter in Woonsocket will remain open and will be expanding to serve more people. Thank you so much to Mayor Chris Beauchamp, Council President Dan Gendron and the entire City Council, and Governor Dan Mckee and the Executive Office of Housing. And we are so grateful to all the residents of Woonsocket and residents of the shelter that came last Monday to the Woonsocket City Council meeting to speak in support of this program.

Jessica Vega arrived at OpenDoors’ Woonsocket shelter homeless and drinking a bottle a day. With the help of our GLP-1 treatment program, she is now housed and has gone more than seven months without a drink, the longest stretch of her adult life. She will be featured in an upcoming PBS NewsHour segment, an Arnold Ventures’ “Fighting Crime” podcast, and appears in a new short documentary that has just been released.

With the primary election approaching on September 9, it is important to stay informed on the criminal legal system, prisons, housing and homelessness, immigration, recovery, and how our future leaders will work to make a more equitable Rhode Island for all.

Saturday inside our kitchen: about 120 meals prepared a day, every day, for the shelters at in Providence and Woonsocket. 85,000+ meals across the 2024–2025 fiscal year. Feast & Fettle is our partner. The kitchen has to provide food every single day so that the rest of the work can keep going. Grateful to the team that makes it happen!

The Women & Children's House is OpenDoors' transitional home for justice-involved mothers and the kids they're reuniting with. We've supported more than 120 women since opening in 2023 with the help of our great house manager Sharon Ashley Sharon Ladyruck Ashley! The mothers who land here are doing some of the hardest work there is: rebuilding family relationships, looking for work, navigating courts, all while finding their footing in recovery. Our current capital project is renovating the kitchen and additional bedrooms so we can house 34 more mothers and children. More on that next week.
