Every year we provide thousands of volunteer hours working to improve and enhance Jenny Wiley.

The forest is getting spooky, the sun is setting, and the nighttime creatures are just beginning to stir! 🦉🦌🦇

Join our park naturalist this Halloween for a fun, relaxed twilight walk along the Sassafras Trail at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park! We’ll keep our eyes and ears open for deer, bats, owls, and other fascinating creatures that come alive as daylight fades. You never know what might rustle in the leaves or flutter overhead! 🍂🌲

This 4+ pound largemouth bass was caught on Dewey Lake this morning — and that fall backdrop isn’t too bad either! 🍂

🎲 Family Game Night at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park! 🎃

Looking for a fun way to spend an evening with the family? Come out to The Pines Building on October 20th from 5:00–7:00 PM for an evening of games, laughs, and a little Halloween fun!

We'll have an array of board games, card games, and Halloween trivia for everyone to enjoy. Whether you're a serious game player or just looking for a fun night out, there's something for everyone!

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Bring your family, bring some snacks, and come hang out with us for a fun evening at the park!

DISCOVER ELK. EXPLORE HISTORY. EXPERIENCE JENNY WILEY.

This fall and winter, join us at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park for a unique Elk Tour through the beautiful landscapes of Eastern Kentucky!

These guided tours will take you beyond the park to reclaimed mine sites where you’ll have the opportunity to watch Kentucky’s famous elk herd as they move across the landscape. Along the way, we’ll explore the fascinating history of elk in Kentucky, from their historic presence and disappearance from the state to their reintroduction and how the herd has been doing since its return.

As we travel to the viewing areas, we’ll also share stories about Jenny Wiley State Resort Park, the surrounding Eastern Kentucky landscape, and some of the places and businesses we pass along the way. Once we reach the viewing areas, we’ll settle in and hopefully catch a glimpse of these incredible animals in their natural surroundings. 🦌🌄

📸 Bring your cameras and binoculars! You never know what you might see along the way, and these tours are a great opportunity to take in the wildlife and scenery of Eastern Kentucky.

🎃 Halloween Evening Nature Walk

What comes out as the sun goes down at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park?

Join the park naturalist on Halloween evening for a relaxed guided walk along the Sassafras Trail as we explore the park during the transition from daylight to dusk. We’ll keep our eyes and ears open for the creatures that become active as the day winds down, from birds and deer to bats, owls, and other nighttime wildlife.

Along the way, we’ll learn about the animals and habitats we encounter, talk about how wildlife adapts to life after dark, and leave plenty of time for questions and conversation. You never know what we might see or hear as Halloween night begins! 🌙

No previous nature or birding experience is needed. Just bring your curiosity and sense of adventure!

Want to introduce your kids to fishing without buying a bunch of gear first? Kentucky State Parks can help! 🎣

Many Kentucky State Parks offer free fishing gear loans, giving families a chance to grab a rod and tackle and spend some time by the water — no personal gear required.

It's an easy way to let kids try fishing, enjoy some time outdoors and maybe even reel in their first catch.

Loaner gear is available at 25 participating Kentucky State Parks, with equipment available at locations ranging from campground offices and front desks to recreation centers, marinas and boat docks. Availability can vary by season and location, so be sure to call the park ahead of your visit.
