Rabies Alert!!!
On November 5, 2025, a puppy in Pulaski County tested positive for rabies. This puppy had contact with several family members and veterinary staff before the diagnosis. Thankfully, everyone who was exposed is now receiving post-exposure rabies shots, which are very effective at preventing the disease once given promptly.
This recent case is a serious reminder that rabies is still very real and present in Kentucky.
Rabies in Our Area
Rabies is endemic in Kentucky, especially in skunks and bats. As of November 12, there have already been 27 confirmed animal rabies cases in 2025 in our state.
• 3 of these cases were in domestic animals:
• 🐕 Two dogs
• 🐴 One horse
When unvaccinated pets come into contact with a rabid wild animal (like a skunk or bat), they can become infected and then unknowingly expose people their family, neighbors, and veterinary staff.
