After a successful Spring Mushroom Foray, it’s time to see what species of mushrooms we can find in the Fall! Join us for a morning of exploring the diverse fungi of Pound Ridge. We will learn the basics of identification while searching for mushrooms in our local forest. 🍄

We will also be hosting a mushroom log inoculation demonstration, where participants can learn how to grow their own mushrooms using logs. Everyone will have the opportunity to get hands-on experience with the inoculation process! 🍄‍🟫

Bring your friends, family, and kids! This is an event that’s fun for everyone.

Don’t forget to dress appropriately for a walk in the woods. Gardening gloves are a plus!

In Partnership with our friends at the Wild Woods Restoration Project, we’ll come together for a morning of potting! After a successful summer, it’s now time to think about the fall.

We’ll be exclusively focused on native plants species tht will be used in future restoration work on PRLC preserves. These mornings have always been very popular, so make sure you plan ahead. 🪴

They’re called leaves. We should leave them.
💚🍁
That layer under your trees and shrubs is not finished with the season. It can be shelter for overwintering moths, butterflies, fireflies, bumblebees, and plenty of other small lives waiting for spring.

You don’t have to leave every leaf exactly where it falls. Move them off paths and patches of lawn, tuck them into beds and under trees, and keep them whole when you can.

Less cleanup. More life. 🦋

What happens on the preserves after dark? 🌙🦋

On Wednesday night, we flipped on the blacklights and found out! During our Pollinators After Dark BioBlitz, we recorded an incredible 109 observations representing 49 different species at Weil Preserve! 🔦🌿

Some of the most documented moths of the night were the Master’s Dart, Large Lace-border Moth, Isabella Tiger Moth, and Large Yellow Underwing– just a few of the many nighttime visitors we discovered!

Thank you to everyone who came out for a night of moth-ing, and a huge thank you to Dave from Pound Ridge Land Conservancy for leading such a fun and fascinating evening! 🦋✨
