In July 2009 the show "Scratchy 45's and Beyond" was created and produced live weekly on FM 106.1 WSCA. With a "retro" appeal of Top 40/Album Rock radio from the 60s-80s the show captures your memory banks re-living the music, jingles, and funn... personality-style radio you heard back then on your AM-FM transistor radio. Tune in 8 AM (ET) Saturday mornings to WSCA radio with your favorite streaming device, smartphone or along the NH Seacoast on FM 106.1. Wondering how this came about....I got my handle "The Supersport" back during the mid 70's, while on CB before the hit single "Convoy" and the related /"CB craze" , as well because my first car was a '66 Chevy Super Sport. You know, the one with the rear speaker built into the back seat! I always loved listening to the radio while growing up in Boston, MA including DX'ing other "Top 40" radio stations across the country and in Canada on the AM Band, and way before internet streaming. I am a huge fan of "Top 40" and Album Oriented Rock (AOR) "retro" radio from the 60's - 80's, and let's not forget those cool jingles we heard. I have not figured out why I never got into radio programming, but given the corporate "cookie-cutting" techniques that have occurred in radio over the years, I am glad that I did not. Today's "corporate" radio is not very creative, in my opinion, unlike Portsmouth, NH Seacoast Community Radio, FM 106.1 - WSCA and wscafm.org. Thanks so much for the past 12+ years of great support not only for the show, also of WSCA-FM which is a non-profit community radio station supporting local, diverse, and live programming. Check out the station's website at "wscafm.org" and make a tax-free donation if you can to support our mission. And don't forget to mention you LOVE the "Scratchy 45s & Beyond" Show with The Supersport!" And Now Ladies and Gentlemen...", Thank You, John (Supersport)

Sugar, Sugar, 1969

https://www.facebook.com/share/1FVx4s9pkt/

This week in 1969, The Archies single “Sugar Sugar” went to #1 on the UK Singles Chart (October 25)

“Sugar, Sugar" was originally released by cartoon band The Archies on the album “Everything's Archie”, which was the product of a group of studio musicians managed by Don Kirshner.

Ron Dante's lead vocals were accompanied by those of Toni W**e and songwriter Andy Kim, who provided the voices of the Archies using multitracking.

It spent 4 weeks at #1 in the US, and was a worldwide #1 hit in Mexico, Spain, Austria, Sweden, Zimbabwe, Singapore, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, and South Africa.

The song also spent 8 weeks at #1 in the UK, which is the longest stint for any UK one-hit-wonder song.
