In July 2009 the show "Scratchy 45's and Beyond" was created and produced live weekly on FM 106.1 WSCA. With a "retro" appeal of Top 40/Album Rock radio from the 60s-80s the show captures your memory banks re-living the music, jingles, and funn... personality-style radio you heard back then on your AM-FM transistor radio. Tune in 8 AM (ET) Saturday mornings to WSCA radio with your favorite streami

ng device, smartphone or along the NH Seacoast on FM 106.1. Wondering how this came about....I got my handle "The Supersport" back during the mid 70's, while on CB before the hit single "Convoy" and the related /"CB craze" , as well because my first car was a '66 Chevy Super Sport. You know, the one with the rear speaker built into the back seat! I always loved listening to the radio while growing up in Boston, MA including DX'ing other "Top 40" radio stations across the country and in Canada on the AM Band, and way before internet streaming. I am a huge fan of "Top 40" and Album Oriented Rock (AOR) "retro" radio from the 60's - 80's, and let's not forget those cool jingles we heard. I have not figured out why I never got into radio programming, but given the corporate "cookie-cutting" techniques that have occurred in radio over the years, I am glad that I did not. Today's "corporate" radio is not very creative, in my opinion, unlike Portsmouth, NH Seacoast Community Radio, FM 106.1 - WSCA and wscafm.org. Thanks so much for the past 12+ years of great support not only for the show, also of WSCA-FM which is a non-profit community radio station supporting local, diverse, and live programming. Check out the station's website at "wscafm.org" and make a tax-free donation if you can to support our mission. And don't forget to mention you LOVE the "Scratchy 45s & Beyond" Show with The Supersport!" And Now Ladies and Gentlemen...", Thank You, John (Supersport)

A Chicago founding member passes on, RIP Walter, thanks for decades of great music.

Sad news in the music world.

With a heavy heart, we say goodbye to Chicago founder and woodwind player, Walter Parazaider, whose passing was announced this morning by his daughter. One of the nicest and funniest men you could ever meet, Walter leaves behind an incredible musical legacy, and there is comfort in imagining him peacefully reunited in heaven with fellow founder Terry Kath. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time. “And if this ends tonight, you can save your tears for the other guys, I’ll see you in another life!”

“So, if you love my father, do something for me, play some music. Anything, and play it loud. He loved doing that. Let’s bless him up yall.”

Walt, you’ve touched so many people’s lives here on earth, thank you for your time, dedication, talent, tears, blood & sweat.

A billboard taking up an entire city block to promote Grand Funk Railroad goes up in New York City's Times Square. It costs Capitol Records about $100,000 but pays off when their Closer To Home album sells over 2 million copies and they sell out Shea Stadium the next summer.

Happy "50th" Birthday to "Chicago X", a cool album with the Hershey Chocolate Bar and several tunes including their #1 hit "If you leave me now",1976. There are so many good songs on the album!!!

It would also be the last 4 Channel (Quadraphonic)Album for the Chicago.

The Summer of '74!

The Summer of '74!

On this day in 1974, the Paul McCartney and Wings LP “Band on the Run” went back to #1 on the US Billboard 200 Albums Chart ( June 8 )

Released in November 1973, the album was mostly recorded at EMI's studio in Lagos, Nigeria, and just before heading off, drummer Denny Seiwell and guitarist Henry McCullough left the group.

With no time to recruit replacements, McCartney went into the studio with just his wife Linda and Denny Laine.
McCartney therefore played bass, drums, percussion and most of the lead guitar parts.

Containing songs like the title track and “Jet”, the album was a stunning success, going to #1 in the US, the UK, Australia, Canada, Norway and Spain, and was critically acclaimed as some of McCartney’s finest post-Beatles work.

Paul said,
“It's a collection of songs and the basic idea about the band on the run is a kind of prison escape. At the beginning of the album, the guy is stuck inside four walls and breaks out. There is a thread, but not a concept.”

In a troubling incident during recording in Lagos, Nigeria, Paul and Linda McCartney were robbed at knifepoint. The assailants made away with all of their valuables and even stole a bag containing a notebook full of handwritten lyrics and songs, and cassettes containing demos for songs to be recorded.

The album cover photograph shows a prison break with McCartney, Linda and Laine plus six other well-known people, including talk show host Michael Parkinson, and actors James Coburn and Christopher Lee.

In 2012, it was listed at #418 on Rolling Stone's revised list of "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time", and in 2013, “Band on the Run” was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

The June 6th, 2026 "Scratchy 45s & Beyond" Show brought on several listeners and requests. If you enjoyed "Top 40 Radio/Album-Oriented Radio I think you should give this show a listen. Almost 17 years ago the show was created and hosted by Supersport and he's still tweaking with the times and listeners.

Donald Fagen has retired from touring and major performances...

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1FhDFyiHas/

After nearly six decades in music, Steely Dan co-founder Donald Fagen has officially retired from touring and major performances.

The 78-year-old jazz-rock legend last performed under the Steely Dan name in March 2024 during shows opening for the Eagles. Since then, he has settled in Woodstock, New York, where he's embracing a quieter chapter focused on family and music-making on his own terms.

According to his stepdaughter Amy Helm, Fagen is "doing fantastic" and playing with the Helm Family Ramble Band at Levon Helm Studios. Most notably, he's collaborating with his grandson on a new album.
